G2IC... as in computer...

Hey Guys,

I am a comopter science major here in Canton, Ohio. I have been contemplating for some time installing a ‘carputer’ in my recently purchased integra.

Has anyone here ever done something like that?

I think it would be cool.

Let me know what you think?

I think somebody did that a while ago… put the motherboard and everything in their glove box and a small LCD monitor on the console…
I THINK… or maybe someone was just contemplating it. Either way, have you tried a search?

You better believe it. :read:

Mainly I’m trying to find a cheap monitor… i have pretty much everything else.

The best I’ve found was about $80 for a dash mount or about $170 for an in-dash.

I’ll keep you guys updated, and if you wanna donate, feel free!

I’ve pondered about doing this too. I know how I would do it also. Put the cpu in some cool case and locate it in the back of the hatch. Put screens everywhere.

are you going to be playing counter-strike while driving your car at 80 mph on the highway? I dont really see the point of having a computer. yea, its awesome for occasional parking lot use, but it seems like a waste of money. but its not my car!!

ps. good luck with your micro-teg.

The hatch?

I have a mini-itx motherboard (http://www.mini-itx.com)… and it will most definately fit in the glovebox… but i’m not sure if I want it there… I might mount it behind the center console (behind the radio).

… and with a wireless keyboard i can stash anywhere…

I’m excited!

Good for MP3s and navigation if you want it. My comp-sci grad student roomate is building one for his A4.

The best would be at least a p3 laptop you could dock and have a touch pad or roller ball up front. have some voice activation/recognition, setup a menu that comes up so the OS looks custom. You’d have a small lcd up front, maybe two. You want to integrate it nicely, without loosing any functionality you have already, ie. glovebox - Unless you’re making a show car.

I have a P200 in my car with a custom in-dash panel, for mp3 playing. This was done 3 years ago. www.camp-3.da.ru

I was looking at your pics with the CAMP and i was mustering around with my stereo today… is it possible to fit two radios on top of each other w/out the plastic piece?

Anyone else? TIA!
