gas mileage problem

I have noticed since it has gotten colder that my gas mileage has gone down:mad: I still drive the same exact way that I used to. I am thinking that it might have something to do with my cold air intake? If so, I am going to take it off for the winter. Thsi ever happened to anyone else with a cold air intake?

as a matter of fact it has happened to me to, i used to be at like 18 mpg now i’m down to around 15, i dont know if it’s because of our intakes or what but i want to know. c ya

It’s not your intake, it’s the gas. As far as I know ALL gas manufacturers start using oxygenated gas in November…and continue using it till March. It’s supposed to reduce emissions, but at the same time it does reduce your gas mileage. Watch, in March your gas mileage will magically get better.

oh ok thanx alot man i thought somethin was wrong. i still think changing my O2 sensor will up my mpg a lil too. thanx tho.

It might if your car is old. I was getting 310 miles per tank in summer, fell to about 260 in winter and when I replaced the o2 sensor it went up to about 290.

I don’t know how cold the weather is for you but when you warm your car up you waste more gas because it takes longer in colder weather and your idle stays higher longer.

yes, when u install a cold air intake, ur gas mi will always go down cause ur getting a colder shot of air… which means it is denser, and since ther eis more air, u need more gas to compensate, thus more power, less gasmi…

is OXYGENATED gas used in all states in the winter, regardless? Cause my gas mileage hasn’t drop at all, at least not that I’ve notice, if I factor in the fact that I DO let my car warm up 5 mins everyday…

also, like mechanic’s_BUD said, that might be the other reason my fuel economy’s dropped 2-3 mpg… I used to avg. 31-34 during summer… now its down to 29-31… (~90% highway miles)
