Ok well my guage lights in my 90 ls arent working. One night i was driving down the road when i had my dashboard out and all of a sudden i smelt like a sulfer smell. I dont know where it was coming from but right after it happened i looked at my guages and the speedo, rpm, gas, and temp gauges werent lit up. other misc. lights work in the cluster but nothing else works. Can someone tell me if its my dimmer switch a fuse or something. Ive ripped out the entire wiring harness and checked for breaks or burns and found nothing. I dont know what to do someone help me please. Thanks alot. Nate  :wtf:
the same thing happened to me, i have been looking for the problem for a while, i have no clue, but if i find out the problem ill let you know.
check your fuse box first. There is most likely a blown fuse. It would be for the circuit that is activated when you turn your parking/headlights on. Which also:
-dims the clock
-illuminates the stock radio
-turns on taillights (be careful if you’re driving at night now… because you have no taillights)
-turns on gauge lights
-turns on parking lights
If that fuse is blown, replace it. Maybe its just a fluke. If it blows again then you need to start looking for a short in that system. The most common reason is when people replace their stereo and don’t tape of the illumination wire used for the stock radio.
see the thing is all of my lights work the tailllights headlights corners and all the lights for the tempature controls light up when i turn on the headlight switch but the only things that dont light up are the gauges themselves, temp, gas, speedo, tack, and then the lights on top of the gauge cluster. Ive checked the wiring for the entire inter of the car all wires are good and there are no breaks or cracks in them.i think it might be the circuitry in the gauge cluster/bezal itself just like this guy on honda tech said. I dont know anymore but if anyone can help me out please do. Thanks alot.
i got the same problem, its driving me insane! if anyone knows pleaz help
Your gauge assembly has a “dimmer circuit” it is probably your problem.
You will need to test the red/black lead at the cluster plug(s), it should be hot, [12V+] when park/head lights are on.
Find it, test it and let me know.94
so i thought that the problem was the actuall cluster it self, so i bought me a used jdm gauge cluster (xsi) hoping that the jdm one would work proparly. i hooked it up and still i have the same problem the lights in that shine down dont work i cant see the needles at all, only the back lights work. i dont think that this is a coincidence, but if any one can help thanks alot
Did you test for power, [park/head light switch on] on the red/black lead(s) at the cluster plugs?
If there is power on the red/black, check for a ground on the red lead at the cluster plugs, red is ground, [from “Dashlights Brightness Controller”] for illumination.:whisper:94
ok thanks ill check it out soon
i had quite the ordeal with my gauge cluster when i replaced the bulbs with LEDs. for me, every time i would put in the LEDs the circuit on the back of the gauge cluster would burn out a small part. I soldered it back and it’s working fine now, with the LEDs.
Try swapping out the bulbs on the top for another bulb (one of the small #74 bulbs in the middle of the cluster), and make sure its not the bulb, just to rule it out.
Keep checking for burns or breaks in the circuit, including the resistor above the gas gauge. Also keep being thorough in checking all the connections are secure and there’s nothing touching the circuit.
well i found out the problem. the 2 74’s that shine down on the cluster were burnt. the temperature light with the know was burnt. man i thought it was sommthin electrical. thanks for your guys help though. it really looks nice now. i can see how fast im going now.
