gutted, dynamat, cloth

i have nothing in the back… no panels… no seats… n stuff… wanted to know if anyone has used dynamat, and has gotten cloth layed out everywhere… and if they have pics… im thinking about doing it… having it nice a bit at least… tired of seeing nothing… but dont want the panels and seats in it…

thanks in advance…

if your using it for sound system purposes use the spray. i heard that the mat rolls are a real pain. not really sure how true that is, but like i said it’s what i heard.

Well, dynamt is really dense and heavy, so it wouldn’t be too weight effective wich is what I assume you trying to do by taking all of the panels etc. out. Dynamt is extremelly easy to work with. It’s esaier than dealing with sprays.

im thinking about the dynamat becuase of road noise… I REALLY HATE ROAD NOISE!!! are there other ways of getting rid of road noise? like… carpet lining… then… cloth… would that reduce some road noise? want it lookin nice also… would using double sided carpet tape be good? to use from cloth with carpet lining

Dynamat will not significantly reuce road noise. Dyna mat or RAAMMAT60 are sound DAMPENING materials… not sound DEADENING. If you want to reduce road noise, Dyna mat will reduce it some because a good application will seal the car up nice and tight… but you need to add some SOFT surfaces to absorb sound… like carpet padding or something similar…

ok, so carpet lining, maybe 2? with cloth would help… correct?

dynamat everything and then fiberglass over the top of it all. then get it painted.

fiberglass? umm… isnt that… dangerous to inhale particles of it?

While it’s curing it is, after that there are no fumes.

Unless you are going for some super sound system screw the glass… there is no need for it! Also… look into http://www.raamaudio.com/ for sound dampening… much cheaper than Dyna mat… if you are just wanting to make the cabin quieter, the easiest/cheapest/lightest way to do it is with carpet padding… Dynamat stops rattles, but doesn’t stop noise too well… there is a difference

I agree, raamatt is way cheaper and is the same quality. Why anybody buys dynamat brand at that price is beyond me.

thanks for the replies… im going to end up going to home depot, and finding how much carpet padding is, then measure how much i need, then go buy some, maybe some time into the week…
thank you all…

Been a while since anyone posted on this topic, hoever I am about to totally carpet-pad the trunk of my GSR. Tha padding is WAY cheap… $35 for like 2.5’x60’, so I will be triple/quadruple layering it, then painting the layers that I adhere to the metal in bottom of the trunk. I will more than likely add the pad behind the rear deck panels too. I know it will be heavy.

I’m more interested in clean sound than in haling ass to the grocery store and back. Besides, I have a carseat in her and my kid is getting tired of the HKS Hyper.

LOL

I am in the process of sound proofing my car right now, I am using Brown Bread from www.b-quiet.com. I’m interested in this carpet padding idea, though… How would you attach the padding to the metal? Does it have an adhesive back?

Not the stuff that I saw. Have to use spray adhesive.

i gutted my teg and put down dynamat, mainly over the whole trunk area and over the fuel pump area. that quieted my cabin down substantially. cost me over $100 for 4 "door sheets of dynamat Extreme, but this stuff is really easy to put down, no rollers or anything, just peel it off and stick it on. The carpet padding idea is also good, though ive never tried it, but thought about trying it (no loot). i have pics on my comp, ill have to find them and upload em.

Someone (I think it was Raam from Raammat) on one of the audio forums suggested using 1/8 inch closed cell foam as well.

ok… carpet padding and spray adhesive… sounds good. Any more specific ideas on what spray adhesive I’ll need? I don’t want to walk into home depot feeling totally clueless…

Would this 1/4inch closed cell foam be available at a home improvement store as well?

Oh and to anyone doing soundproofing, DON’t pay the money for dynamat, just get RAAMAT or Brown bread like I did. You can get 35 sq. feet of brown bread at www.b-quiet.com for $99. You need a heat gun to put it on, but its still really easy. I did both my doors with a 35 sq foot roll and I still have enough for probably most of the back as well.

i got the same amount of dynamat extreme (thicker than regular) for $100 and i didnt need a heat gun. yes there are cheaper alternatives, but for people who dont want to use a heat gun (or dont have one) for something that simple, dynamat is still a great investment. it should only take you about 2 mins a sheet to put it on.

why dont you just use the stuff they use in walls of houses…lol j/k dont do that!
