Header Wrap?

I was just wondering if this stuff actually helps your car run a little better, i plan on getting a DC JDM ITR header and using the thermal wrap haven’ t really seen a lot of people use this stuff but those who have seem to see a difference…i herad of one guy who was burning oil at high rpm and went with some thermal wrap on his header to cool things down and appearently he burns less oil due to the heat reduction this is in an mr2 mind you…i dont think that should make a difference…i know that it cools down your engine a little am i right?..anyway let me know.

thanks

i think it does help however most wraps you will notice have a disclaimer that states it will void your headers warranty- which is true most of the times. This is why IMO most people do not do it, that and it doesnt look as shiny and cool with the wrap on it as dumb of a reason as that is hehe

Don’t use the wrap, you don’t need it!!! I was told to put it on my stainless header (back in the day), and it ended up tarnishing it to $hit. Thermal wrap may keep the engine bay cooler, but it also keeps alot of heat within your header, that is supposed to be vented away from it … this can and eventually will cause cracking/warping. From personal experience, I say don’t do it, it’s really unnecessary.

:werd: dont use the wrap, you will gain nothing in performance or efficiency. headers will fatigue after time from moister the wrap holds in and the heat as well. wrap is more for super high horsepower applications where you need every last pony you can get.

All DC ceramic coated headers are made of mild steel which rusts very easily. If you wrap a ceramic header, moisture will settle between the wrap and the header itself which in turn will destroy the ceramic coating and work on the steel.

If you like your header you’re not going to wrap it. mild steel rusts. Stainless steel tarnishes but does not rust as easily as mild steel.

the reason why ppl use header wraps is to prevent exhaust temps from dropping along the headers: hot gases r less dense, and hence u can expel them without robbing the engine of more power.

if u’re worried about the looks of ur header then dont do it. in anycase, i wouldnt expect u to gain much hp unless u have some special setup. i dont know about moisture etc getting in, 'cos last i checked ceramic coating was cheaper than thermal wraps, so thats what i did.

the main theory behind the wrap is to keep the heat in the header, in turn the header exhaust velocity is suppose to increase, increasing the scavaging effect of the header, but like i said unless your balls out racer its a waste.

Don’t do it! I had header wrap on my DC for 8 months. Made the header get so hot a weld gave. There were no performance gains either.

:werd: !!! my header is so fugly now … I shouldn’t have listened to that moron mechanic ahhhhh!!!
