Im looking at a header choice but i dont wanna spend a whole crxp load. My choices so far are the hp racing header, the chikara hedman header and possibly a neuspeed. any ideas? The HP racing header was in the power pages of import tuner and was dynoed to ad like 5.8 to the wheels on a sohc honda civic ex engine, and its only 170$ in stainless, 220 in ceramic. I heard the neuspeed was better than the dc sports slightly. and I want the chikara torque step header but i think those are the expensive models. well anyway any help would be appreciated. thanks.![]()
You have to determine what your final goal is for your car before you decide on what header to go with. Is this for street? drag? auto-x? Are you staying n/a or going turbo/sc? How heavily will you modify the engine if you stay n/a?
Don’t pay much attention to manufacturer advertised hp-gain claims, those are always tweaked and have a lot of tuning to go along with them.
Obviously if you think you might go turbo, don’t waste the money on a header, you’ll just be taking it off. If you do stay n/a, and you’re only mildly modifying the engine, stick with a 4-2-1 design. If you have a cai, consider stainless steel for its durability. If you only have a shortram, definately go with the ceramic coating (otherwise your shortram will be sucking in a lot of hot air = loss of performance).
If you do go with agressive cams, increased compression, etc. and you’re interested in having the car as a drag vehicle, then you should consider saving up for a large 4-1 design with a 2.5" collecter; otherwise, stick with the 4-2-1 design. For basic applications, DC& Greddy both make good headers, and they’re not too expensive. I’ve heard good things about the Chikara, but never known someone to have one.
If you have a 90-91 integra, you can also go with a 92-93 Integra exhaust manifold - that’s where the 10hp comes from (140 vs. 130). Good luck with your decision…
i understand that the 10hp difference between the 91 to 92 integras was more than just the header. It was a combination between the intake manifold, head and header. Not to mention the computer, the redline is higher, is the map any different?
