Does anybody know if sealant needs to be used when a new headgasket is installed? I just put in a 2 layer and install it without any type of sealant (factory manual didn’t say anything about this). Also, Should the torque on the headbolts be 22 then 61 lb-ft or should it be slighty higher (+5 lbs) since I’m using a thinner head gasket? This is my daily driver so I want to make sure that it’s a reliable as possible.
I didn’t use any sealent on mine. No leaking as of right now…(there was at first cause part of the old intake manifold was under the head gasket).
don’t know about the torque though
I know stock is 22 then 61…don’t know about the extra though
Thanks for the info. Glad to see that somebody else installed it
without any sealant and had no problems with it. How long had you had your new headgasket?
mmm well…I guess thats the catch lol
it’s been in there for a little over a month…but the car still isn’t running…I’ve got other valve train problems
I ran it pretty hard for a couple hrs and there’s no prob
Oh, ok lol… Well, if you were able to run it hard for a couple of hours, I would imagine that you would of seen some type of oil or coolant leak on your block if there was problem.
here’s a tip… honda bond on the cam seal is cool. but next time you have to replace it (won’t be for a while) just get a 96+ GS-R cam seal. It has an o-ring on it and is not prone to leaking like the our older cam seal. peace
