------>HELP!!! 90 DA with problems starting....<------

Half the time the car starts fine, and runs fine, no idling problems, no problems at all.

The other half of the time I turn the key to start the car, the rpms jump up exactly as they would if the car were going to start, as soon as I let off pressure on turning the key to start the car, it dies. I found I can hold the key in the start position and the car will actually run like normal except for the fact that the starter is turning, but as soon as i stop turning the key, the car dies. What the hell is wrong? Keep in mind I just had this motor put in, it’s the same kind of motor that came stock in the car, the old motor was blown. I’m trying not to leave anything out… Please help guys, I just got my car back and it’s pissing me off that it’s not running right…

Main fuel relay? When you turn the key all the way just before the point where the starter starts cranking, do you hear a click after a couple of seconds? Try to see if you hear the click when your car starts and don’t when it doesn’t. This would confirm it’s the relay.

Hmmm… just went outside and listened when I turned the key… should i hear it before or after the beeping? My car started fine that time though… Well anyway where is the main fuel relay? would it be worth it to just replace it just to be safe? how much does it usually cost?

It clicks at about the same time when the Check Engine Light turns off for me. It’s a $60 part from Honda but you can resolder it and essentially fix it for free. Check out http://techauto.tripod.com/mainrelay.htm

great thanks a lot, man. where is that relay located in my car?

I’m going to do this with my car soon as mine fails just under 1% of the time. It should be behind the panel right under your steering column. Just search the forums, there’s more information about it. I haven’t actually taken mine out yet, but it sounds annoying to do.

tonys2teg: that was a waste of a post, help the guy out or don’t reply.

If it is the MFR, when you crank the key to II (just before it turns the engine over) you will hear the fuel pump priming, it sounds like a faint whirring noise coming from underneath the rear seat. Two other possible culprits are the ignition coil or ignitor. Is the distributor you are using now the one you had with your other motor? Or is it the one that came with the new B18A?

Does your car turn off by itself sometimes??? if so it is probably ur ignition switch. My car did the same thing and I changed the ignitions switch. It sits behind the key column.

Well, my key IS hard to turn sometimes, you gotta force it… That’s only sometimes though… and its hard to turn far enough to take out sometimes too. Almost liike when your car isnt in park, and it wont let you take out the key.

Weel, the thing is, i had car #1 which was totaled and had a good motor, and found car #2 which had a blown motor but good body and transmission and immaculate interior, so the distributer is off the good motor.
