Help, advice on distributor

I found out I need a new distributor. The real problem is with the “crank angle sensor” that is within the distributor. . .but the only solution is to change the entire distributor.

I need help because I am pissed. I already spent quite a lot of money replacing the Ignition coil, and the ignitor that are also in the distributor. NOW i have to throw all that away???

Well so far a shop told me a new distributor is gonna cost me $219. I tried finding one cheaper, but lowest so far is from a dismantling shop, for $150!!!

Anybody have ideas where I should look? I have 1991 LS and live near Orange County in Cali.

Also, the shop that asked me $219 will probably charge me too much for labor, is it really that hard to replace the ENTIRE distributor myself? I did the coil/ignitor anywa.

Anyone, help please. Thanks much.

Welp I just went threw the same thing you are going threw. My coil and ignitor want on my car and did not know it. My friend kept telling me get a whole new dirtributor. I called the local part store they did not have it , and if they ordered it it whould be like 450.00. I called around the local junk yards and the cheapest I could find one for was about 150.00. So 150 is not that bad once you know the cost of a new one.

I havd the same problems with mine.

I bought a sued one from someone on here and it ended up having bad bearrings also so . I decided to go ahead and get either a rebuild one or one with warranty. soi just got one form calling people on www.auto-parts.com i got one for around 130 shipped and the good thing is that it has like 60 days warranty. it is not new but hey as long as it does’nt grind like my current one i’ll drive like a happy camper.

I had to replace my distributor about 3 months ago. Allof the teeth inside it were torn off. The guy at the shop said that in his 25 years as a mechanic he has never seen anything like it. The whole job eneded up costing me about $300CND…:frowning:

sorry dude you are gonna have to replace it. i paid $300.00 i think and 2 weeks later found one i a rolled car at a salvage yard. i got that one for $25.00 for a spare. also if they tell you you can’t put one in made for a standard tranny in an automatic they are lying. it does not matter. i put one in suposedly for a standard tranny in mine wich has auto and it works fine and i think they charge more for the auto one. but with all the sensors mounted permanently in the dist. your stuck buying new if only one sesor fails.
