My battery light has been coming on and off lately as well.
How long has your battery light been coming on and off?
I have deduced that my alternator is going.
If you have a battery charger, then charge up your battery.
Get a volt meter, or something similiar, and measure the voltage of the battery. If it is over 14 volts with the engine running, then it is fine, if lower, then there is a problem with the alternator. If your battery can’t hold its charge then it is your battery. This is what I did, with help and knowledge from my neighbor

I hope this helps. [/B]
hey wasup, my battery light just started having problems the past 2 days.
ok first off…that tiny battery from the civic ain’t good…too little amperage
b. loose the pulleys…alternator pulley makes alternator turn slower, therefore it doesn’;t recharge as it should
c. see if your alternator is still alive.
The AEM alternator pullies have mixed reviews. seems as though those with heavily modded engines seem to have problems w/ the pulleys for the reasons that many have already given in this thread.
i know a several people here that had problems w/ the pulleys causing their tegs to die. they seem to be fine in most tegs w/o real aggressive tuning.

do you have a stereo system in your teg? [/B]
I just have a sony cd/mp3 deck. no amps or anything like that. I also don’t bump my music either (my music is the harmonious roar of the engine). do you recommend me just going with the stock pully?
Hey guys,
well after all the work, I found out the alternator just isn’t putting out enough charge for the battery to recharge. The alternator is at an alternator shop right now, they’re seeing if they can fix it, or else it’s going to have to be replaced. Ah it’s gonna run me mad cash
I just pulled out my alternator yesterday. Went through lots of hassle getting that thing out, taking the left driveshaft out and all. Of course my neighbor did it all hehe.
Hopefully the alternator will be rebuilt today and put back into the car.
If you have to get a replacement, get a rebuilt one. New ones cost a lot! Nearly CDN$400 for me. Hopefully rebuilding mine will only be about CDN$100.

Yeah the rebuilt ones are cheaper. They actually fixed mine, the problem were the brushes… GOODLUCK ON THE ALTERNATOR!
RESOLUTION:
Alternator turned out to have bad brushes. They fixed it and everything went back in. While i was driving, TONS of smoke started spewing out of the exhaust, like clouds were forming, the ozone layer broke right above me. I checked the oil level, and F#CK, it was past the halfway point on the stick. What happened was before when my car died, I hit the gas a lot, the fuel injectors sprayed fuel, but there wasn’t any power to spark the plugs, thus the gas got squeezed past the rings into the motor oil. Damn. But well after draining all the oil out and replacing it, it now pulls just as hard as before. and hey, the windows go up faster! Also another thing, there was a problem with the power from the batter to the alternator, you guys should all check this, he said it’s a common problem with old alternators. The connection was barely on, and they had to sandblast it to get a good connection. hehe. I don’t know. Anyways, thank you all for your help! I WILL see you at the WCM:cool:
Most shops will test a batt. and altnator, but it sounds like the altonotor all by it lonesome :), If you have a multimeter (electronic store 5-10$) test the voltage coming off the altonator after you jump start the car.
hehe good to hear Blizzard, our alternator problems are fixed. Got mine in yesterday, there seems to be no problems.
I don’t know what was wrong with my alternator, my neighbor brought it to a place he knew and got it fixed, cost me CDN$120.
So I probably saved a good $100. My neighbor is just a DIY mechanic, he likes working on cars.
Was gonna take my car to a shop to change timing belt, water pump, alternator which would have cost me a good CDN$600 for parts and labour, I opened up the valve cover and the timing belt looked good, so I can hold off on that for another year. It’s nice to save some money hehe.
