help quick please!

i just picked up two ten inch alpine type r subs and a jl 500/1 amp from aaron (member: g2deeznutz) i hooked it all up and theres no sound! I took the subs inside and they work on my home theatre, but not in my car. im sure the amp works, its getting power and everything, but no sound. i think my preouts may be bad? im gonna put my old deck back in today and see what happens. TIA for any other input you got

before i went through the process of changing the head unit, i’d just get a portable cd player with the headphone to RCA cable converter and hook that up. Good luck though.

ok i switched decks before i read joes genious post lol. and still no sound. im runnin the 12v wire to my fuse panel. should that matter? the amp light is still on, but no sound from subs! if i run it to the battery, will that help?

My best guess would be that you aren’t getting power on the remote turn-on lead. Temporarily connect the remote turn-on lead to a toggle switch in series with the wire (connected to the + side of the battery – connecting it to the +12 on the amp will be ok for testing purposes)…

Now… play the source unit again… no sound??? flick the switch and send 12V down the remote turn on lead briefly… any sound??

If that doesn’t work, check the crossover settings on your sub amp and turn them up a little at a time… any sound??

Still doesn’t work?? Swap out the RCAs and/or have the amp bench tested. If all else fails, there’s always beer in the fridge…

bench test: speaker outputs bad. damnit. ima send it back to jl. and the beer idea works too neex!

So… did a G2IC member sell you a toasted amp?? I’m curious.

I’m glad you figued out the problem though – I was afraid it might be the output stage.
