Hey, I have a 91 integra GS that i bought like 2 1/2 months ago… I love this car. Before i owned the teg i had a 93 saturn sc1 (85 hp beast)
Well, it just seems to me that sometimes my saturn would have outrun this car off the line. My teg is a manual and i have 150,000 miles. Am i just used to the satty clutch? I change out of first gear around 3,000 rpm–Is this to low to change gears in the Teg? The engine kinda “stutters” like i am changing gears to quick or letting the clutch out to fast… Then, once i reach a certain rpm i can feel it actually starting to accelerate. I just kinda feel like 4,000 might be a little high to change gears in because of it’s age and mileage…but, i could be wrong–thanks in advance for any input…![]()
if u feel like ur saturn has better pick up than your integra, then u noe u have sum kind of engine problem… maybe u need to clean ur fuel injectors, get a full tune up
3000rpm shifts!!! thats soooo low! Thats more than babying your car.
with my normal driving around town i shift at 4000, sometimes 4500, but rarely below 4000.
really, don’t be afraid to rev your car! its a honda!!! these things are built to last. I take my car to redline at least once every time i drive it—this probably isn’t the best for it, but i’ve got 180k miles on it and its still running strong.

2500 - 3000rpm shifts here around town…exhaust sounds sweeet around there…but, when I boot it, I take it right to 6900rpm…and then prolly 7500rpm after I get my revlimit taken out and dyno tuned…depending on where my poweer band gets put…
good point
yeah u guys have a good point-i think i will start driving her harder-i just had a big scare because i thought i had a bad cylinder…(because i had oil on 1 of my spark plugs) but it was actually just a bad o-ring–!! i’m kinda happy about that! I think i’ll drive it how it’s supposed to be-thanks guys…
well actually, if you read the owner’s manual that came with the car. Honda recommends that you shift around 2700rpm. Its been awhile since I’ve last opened my owner’s manual but I’m pretty sure it is there. They even have a chart of when to shift at which gears.
I shift between 2,500 and 3,000 to keep the tires from spinning on ice (damn Canadian winter) but it doesn’t feel sluggish. I was driving my parents Caravan it was really sluggish so I played under the hood and it was a loose spark plug wire and when it’s burned most of the oil between oil changes the Caravan feels sluggish.
awww theres nothing better then switching at 4000–5500 since thats where you will feel you car (torque) hehe
after thats its all horsies…i take my car to redline a few times a day. my car runs as strong as a goat hahah!
yeah most american cars have tons of low end torque… there i raced a gsr, beat him to 70mph, then he beat me, damn short gear ratios, i had more torque on him in the begning. ahaha

I’m glad you didn’t own my car before me.![]()
I sort of have the same probs with my ls. Sometimes when i take off (normally), the car seems to bog down a little and then its alright from there. So when I drive now I just give 2 little taps on the accel pedal as I release the clutch. Has anyone had this prob b4?
I’m surprised no one has said this yet. Your timing could be off, you could have a clogged cat, your cams may need to be adjusted. You may just need a tune up.
I take my car to redline, everytime I drive. Everytime. I’ve got 192,000 miles on my car and it runs very strong. Thank you GS-R tranny.
:::runs out to give tranny an “I love you” noogie:::

Hi there again, I bought the car only for a month now and since then I have given the car a full tune up including plugs, leads, a full injector service and have replaced the cam belt. I know its not the timing because the car had the problem from day 1…
I’d have to ride in the car to give you my opinion, and sorry dood, but Sydney is a long drive. Everything I said above is all I can suggest from accross an ocean.

Thanks man…you helped me out anyway…![]()
man all of you people drive your cars nice and stuff. My 90 has been beat and beat and beat and beat some more and it has 195k on it and still runs great and is even still tight. drives like a 50k american car.
and my 92 i have had for almost 3 years now which i drive hard all of the time. when i had the ls motor in it i hit redline all of the time and now i have a B16 which i kinda baby, I take it to redline but not to the rev limiter (set at 8800) except for on accidental occasion. ![]()
oh BTW when I yanked the LS motor it was still tight, had even compression across the board, and didn’t use a drop of oil with 155k on it.
it’s your timing !!!
with the engine warmed up, loosen the bolts on the
distributor (just a little) and try to manually adjust
your timing (in the end you’ll do it with a gun but
for now this should do it) …
the way to go is to pull on the acceleration cable
(push on the … (what’s teh name for it) …) from
within the engine bay and after each firm pull listen
to the engine reaction …
and turn the distributor a minute amount …
it is very hard to explain but basically you’re looking for
the fastest/quickest reaction of the engine vs. your pulling …
meaning that if you pull hard and the engine seems to stutter
at that very moment … ignition is off … play around with it (by pulling
and turning the distributor a little) for 10-15 times until you get the
feeling …
then … try 2-3 positions (distributor) that seemed to offer quick
throtle response. tighten distributor back on and drive it 2-3 mins.
if you feel a difference in power … then it definitely is the ignition.
get a gun and do it right.
if it doesn’t make any difference … or if the difference is small
then it might be something else … i bet it is the ignition because
of the pickup you get later, after a certain RPM …
i don’t think it’s the injectors although there is a chance there too …
my 2c.
radu.
that lag issue sounds alot like it could be an 02 sensor, especially the feeling like it isn’t accelarating until 4000, a faulty sensor cuts off fuel when it should be giving it …creating a lag
LOL 4000rpms too high
I have a 92 gsr. I drove it for the first time yesterday. It has 167,000 miles… and what did i do? I shifted at 8000 rpms all day long! call me crazy, but i don’t care… it was fun and if somehting broke… i can fix it.
Yes, oxygen sensor. I had the exact same problem. Felt like it hit nitrous at 4000 rpm or something. Replaced the O2 sensor. Drives like new.
