This JUST started like 10 mins ago. the higher the rpm of the motor goes…the louder this whine gets. Now I’ve heard that a noise like this is a sign of the distributor going bad. I’ve also been having a problem with my car stuttering and got a code #9 once this week.
Some how I don’t think tihs is all happening at once just for fun.
Can anyone confirm that the noise is my distributor going bad?
I tried listening to the engine…but there’s a storm up here right now and I can’t hear where it’s comming from with the sound of the wind howling and the tree’s be blowning around.
yeah. it could totally be your distributor - and if it is, and it goes bad, it could totally lock and take your timing belt with it. and you know what that could mean…
:idea: or it could be the timming belt tensioner which is what is wrong with my car. The whine goes up with the revs. Try and see if the whine is on the right side of the motor on the opposite side of the distributor. 90% sure it could be that. I also thought it was the distributor but come to find out it was the tensioner bearing cause of some dumb idiots tightining it too much.
Tom, here is another idea for you. I had the same sounding problem and I realized that the reducer on my intake had moved around and there was a gap between it and my intake manifold. It made a loud high-pitched whining/whistling sound too when i would rev my engine, etc. Just an idea for you.
i know this is a really old thread but …better search and find an old thread then start one that has already been asked…
ive noticed a howling that also goes up with revs, and it is coming from the right side of the enigne (by the belts), could someone show me where the timing belt tensioner is?
