I did my first fluid change in my J. built JDM YS1 with an ITR or CTR LSD and used MTF again. The initial fill was with MTF (11,000 miles ago) and the fluid was grey/green when drained. I think I should change my fluid more often since this transmission sees constant high RPM and lots up up/down shifts.
If your fluid was green gray, then you have fluid contamination, possibly water. I would pull the tranny fill bolt once every few weeks and see how quickly your fluid is changing color. It should look fresh like it just came out of the bottle, unlike engine oil that changes color rather quickly.
Does your tranny vent tube still have the cap on it?
It still has the cap. The transmission was rebuilt before I installed it so it may have had assembly lube in it still. There was lots of grinding done to make the LSD fit too.
No, when I am stopped. Now sometimes I put it into 2nd then 1st because its easier. :hmm:
thats what i do all the time at stops. helps to reset the shift lock.
Yea my honda MTF was gray/green as well after hard driving at Buttonwillow… I started to change my tranny fluid every other oil change…
O yea…I have tried other tranny fluids like Redline and the GM stuff…but so far Honda MTF shifts smoother for me…
Ya, embarassing when your making winkie winkie with some hottie, then you can’t get that bish in first when the light turns green.
how does trans fluid affect that? I dont know, just changed out what was in there (dealer changed it last time with the previous owner) and now its hard to get into 1st. This sucks.
I already did from the day he showed up on the boards.
It seems I have been having a problem with my tranny for awhile now. I first noticed it after a night of drag and slolam racing at the track. It got really sticky and clunky. A day or two after that it was a little better so I figured it was just really hot and needed to cool down or something. But it continued randomly, sometimes it was buttery smooth and sometimes sticky. So I bought the honda tranny fluid and it was better but not as good as I had hoped. So after about six months now it has gotten pretty bad. I got in my car thismorning and couldn’t get it into gear. After some forcing I got it into second and took off in that gear. Once driving it gets better and is easy to get into gear until I stop and let off the clutch. Then it’s hit or miss getting it into first. Sometimes it goes in real easy and sometimes I have to fight to get it in. So I think I’m going to try the gm synchromesh. Now is this stuff gear oil or is it like engine oil like the honda stuff?
It is transmission fluid.
edit: haha I just realized what I replied.lol I’m a dumbass.
LAtes.
just used that for the first time yesterday for the first time and i love it
It’s tranny/gear fluid, ok thankyou. And why are you a dumbass? lol
things you said about your tranny happened to me many months ago and trust me it is not your tranny fault, it is the clutch that fucked up on the inner rim.
with my case i broke the inner clutch rim and some broken springs that on the middle of the clutch and some other little things, the clutch was OEM and now exedy stage 1 installed and its bite like a pitbull :burnout:
hmmm that’s odd cause I have had a centerforce dual friction clutch in for over a year now. This is not the origional tranny though. I guess trial and error will tell the story. It better not be my clutch and I don’t have a problem with slippage.
I had written down something else.
