How to remove paint w/o damaging clear coat?

I was painting my grill black, my masking sucked & didn’t see little ripped holes so paint went through and got on my white paint. Anyone know a good/easy way to remove the black paint without taking off the clear coat or scratching it? Thanks.

Who ever knows… YOU ARE THE MAN!

You’re gonna have to go REALLY gentle first and stick with it, no matter how longs it seems to take. It’s going to take some elbow-grease, but you don’t want to use anything that’ll do it quick but harsh, or you’ll damage the clearcoat. Take an ultra-fine polishing compound first, a thick liquid brand like Meguiar’s X Scratch-Remover, and use a polishing cloth and buff out the overspray paint. That’s all I would suggest, since anything else would probably get in too deep like wet-sanding, etc. Hope that helps…

Thanks for the info I’ll try that!

Is the paint that you need to get off on there pretty heavy, or is it just a mist?
If it’s just a mist, you could also use traditional overspray removal methods. The one I used to use when I worked at Ming AutoBeauty was with clay… You need a showroom conditioner (almost a spray wax) that you just mist on and then use clay and rub the affected areas and the paint comes right off, and basically the purpose of the showroom conditioner is to act as a lubricant, so you don’t have to worry about scratching anything. If you can’t find showroom conditioner, i imagine any oil-based spray would work, really… not sure though.

Hope this helps!
