I remember blue smoke out of the exhaust is caused by broken rings.
I notice puffs of smoke when I rev hard or accelerate hard… would this be the valve stem seals??

It could be valve seals, but sounds more like piston rings. Here’s the “normal” symptoms for each…
Bad Rings: Blue smoke on acceleration (especially under high rpm loads). Excessive oil consumption. More than a quart every 1000 miles. Oil in your intake track…being caused by bad compression rings (blow-by)
Bad Valve Seals: Puff of blue smoke between shifts, or blue smoke after motor has been sitting overnight or at idle for awhile. Sometimes bad valve seals can cause smoke on accel as well.
Your best bet to figure out which one is the problem is to have a leak down test done. This will tell you if your rings have had it or not. If your rings are fine, the PCV system is working properly, but you’re still going through oil or have a nasty trail or blue smoke, chances are you have a valve seal problem. I hope this helps. Best of luck.
I have bad blue smoke in the mornings and after school but it goes away for the most part after it warms up. I say for the most part because if I do excessive reving, it will likely smoke blue after a bit. But other than the first street or so after startup, the smoke is gone. I hope its just the valve stem seals and plan on replacing them myself next weekend. I dont mind too much if it smokes a little under excessive reving but the cloud of blue in the mornings bothers me. Any advice is appreciated.
If you have a compression tester check and record the compression on all four cylinders. Then take and pour about a tablespoon of oil directly into the cylinder and recheck compression. If compression goes up quiet a bit then the rings are worn.
