I can't put my car into gear

Well, after an engine swap and a new clutch (CM stage III) and flywheel (ITR) i couldn’t shift into gear. I was able to drive it home from the shop saturday evening and i didn’t drive it yesterday at all. So i was backing up this morning and when it’s time to shift to 1st, it woudln’t go. So i shut off the engine, shift to 1st and started again. With that i was able to get in the grage again. I took a look at the nut/ring you adjust your clutch cable with and it’s all the way up. I twisted it down about half an inch and tranny was usable again. Isn’t it suppose to engage faster if I adjusted it lower? And the clutch pedal when i am pressing it, feels like something is rubbing on it. What could be wrong with my clutch/tranny? Oh and they just put fresh honda MTF. Thanks.

sh@t tat doesn’t sound good jon, someone call G2Guru!! heh

Well, i was trying to move my car a few mins ago and SNAP my clutch goes to the floor. There’s still some space between the floor and the clutch pedal but it’s very minimal. Please help.

you’re boned, but it’s an easy fix.

Just go down to your local Acura dealer, and pick up a used whole Integra. Use the parts from it to fix yours. Now you have a parts car with lots of good parts on it.

Thanks, but this situation am in is kinda sad and not funny.

ohhh i bet its just you clutch cable it prolly got jacked up when they took it off and it just snaped… now it prolly wont shift at all?

Yeah the clutch cable is what i think it is. Is it hard to replace? Would anyone know how much it costs? Thanks.

I’m going under the assumption that the clutch cable is broken, but there is another initial problem…A friend of mine bought a new performance clutch for his CRX. Could barely switch gears, just like you say. Turns out, the clutch plate was so freaking thick that it wasn’t totally disengaging. Maybe there are clearence issues with the new clutch and the ITR flywheel.
Anyone Else?

i agree whith what u were saying, i have heard of that same problem, it was the clutch cable on 1 of my friend’s car and on another it was the space between the clutch and the pressure plate i haven’t heard of nething wrong between the clutch and the flywheel though. just a ? y did u go with a cm stage III?

Wild Child-I thought the problem occured because the clutch disk was in constant contact with the flywheel, or real close to it, so it couldn’t be completly disengauged. So it could be a problem with either. Am I thinking in the wrong direction?

Well, ok, this is what happend. I called the mech that did the swap and he told me to pull the clutch cable all the way up and tighten the cable. Well, it worked. I will take it to him tomorrow though to have it checked. Thanks for the replys guys.

well, i guess you dont need anymore help, but i jus wanna add that over time the clutch cable gets worn and individual strands may snap. thats why when you adjust it you can still shift. i dont believe its costly to replace it, but i guess can be a pain running it from the tranny through the firewall, i’m sure there are many hard to reach spots, lol. anyways, good luck with it.

no u r right that was my bad, thanx 4 pointing that out:eek:

HybridNate = HFL nate = Type-Grr = WhiteSheep? :smiley:

Does hybridnate mean you got the b17a?

Well, the B20Z is great. I haven’t really gotten on it because of the problem stated above and my oil filter wouldn’t come off. I just love the torque and the not having to downshift.

That’s me Jon. I hope to have things in order soon.

Good to hear your swap went well and I hope that you get the gremlins solved soon!
