What do I need? I have a 91 LS with a B17A swap, and I dont want to go LS/Vtec or CRV/Vtec. but I want more than 117 of torque. thanks
any coment will be apreciated
-Pistons -raise compression as high as possible
-CTR, Skunk2, JUN, Spoon, or Toda cams (plus cam gears and upgraded valvetrain)
-ITR intake manifold
-larger throttle body
-port/polish head
-apexi v-afc
-larger injectors, or at least cleaned stock ones
-fpr
-upgrade ignition system
and of course the basic bolt ons i/h/e (make sure its good quality stuff though)
after that you don’t really have many more options (all motor ones that is). you can always bore the block out. you can bore and resleeve to 84mm and bring the displacement up to about 1800cc, which is definitely good for some hp (and better yet, torque).

thank you
, and How much am I looking to spend??? can you give me like an average price for each item/part? so I can have an idea, and all that, (aprox) how much wheel Hp and hp to the block will give me?
sorry for the ignorance but whats FPR? (fuel pressure Regulator?) what about apexi v-afc? ![]()
what I got is I/E. do I have to get another intake system if Im geting the ITR intake manifold?
can I also use ITR cams?
what do you mean by larger throttle body? which should I get?
what about upgrading the ignition system?
thanks for your help.

well, i’m not exactly sure on prices, but i’ll give some estimates (please if i’m wrong, someone correct me).
-pistons $330+ tax+shipping (www.jdmhondaparts.com)
-ctr cams $450, skunk2 cams $650, jun, spoon, toda cams $900+
-itr valve springs $160
-cam gears $180-$300
-itr intake manifold $275
-larger throttle body $150-$300
-port polish head $900+ (portflow)
-apex v-afc $300
-injector cleaning $100
-fpr (fuel pressure regulator) $80
-header $300-$550
this 'ish isn’t cheap!
$$$$$$
how many wheel hp, does the LS/vtec and Crv-Vtec has? and all this is gonna give me more whp or less? I want at lease 150 whp.
I cant afford for a 190+ setup ![]()
try this site www.ImportReview.com and click on dyno charts. They have alot of info on whp
…
would it be cheaper or better to get the LS block and swap all the B17 head and other components?. would that help?![]()
I’ll check that web site
150whp is pretty easy to achieve. Stock you’re probably putting down 135whp or so, give or take 5hp. like cr-vtec suggested, you should check out the dyno charts. here are some charts of b16a’s: http://www.importreview.com/d_1.6.html the b17a will put out similar numbers with similar mods (the b16a has higher compression, but the b17a has more displacement… they sort of cancel eachother out).
you could probably put down 150whp with:
-raised compression
-cold air intake
-good header
-good exhaust
it might take a little more, like a fpr, ecu, v-afc, or intake manifold to put you over 150whp… but it just depends on how strong your engine is, and what condition its in.
Personally i wouldn’t do the ls/vtec. its a lot of money for something i don’t really trust. you can spend the same amount (give or take $100) and build yourself a poorman’s itr (b18c1 block + pr3 head). Or you can always bore out your b17a to 84+mm and get it resleeved… thus increasing displacement.
just get some nice cams, upgrade your valvetrain, and get some good bolt-ons. its not worth you investing in an LS/VTEC or CR-VTEC if you arent going to go the whole way with it. since you are on a limited budget just upgrade what you got. Some stage 2 cams from Skunk2, JUN, Toda, etc. will give you impressive gains. you could also port and polish your head and get a thinner head gasket to bump up the compression a little.
…
thank you guys, can any of you tell me if I have HEADERS?? I really dont know. or are those the stock ones?
thanks chipper.

At what point in engine building are ARP headbolts recommended?
Mike
I agree w/ chipper just build up the b17…paying so much more $$ to increase the displacement for a few more lbs of torque is not worth it IMO- if you want a lot of torque boost your motor.

when u raise compression

And keep your kick ass r/s ratio. This is what I would do.
