Okay, I need ur help here guys…this has happened twice to me. When i’m sitting at a light, the engine will suddenly idle rough and feels like its gonna die. Then my car will start to have a faint smell of gas. What do u guys think is causing this? Sum things I’m guessing are: Timing Belt, Fuel Pump is about to go, Bad Injectors, Bad Spark Plugs, and Maybe a Bad Fuel Filter…Please help me figure it out…Thanks in advance!–Ziggy
When is the last time that you did a tune up??
If it has been a while I would suggest changing your plugs, cap, rotor, and plug wires if they are old. That will most likely get rid of that for you. You could also try changing out your fuel filter.
Also, what mods do you have??

BR, thanks for the reply…yes, its been a while since it had a tune up…I wil be changing the cap, rotor, fuel filter, plugs and wires this weekend and hopefully it will go away…Its a good thing this problem has only happened twice in a matter of a month…Another thing i was thinking of is a bad throttle position sensor…My car has 123,000 miles with just basic mods like intake, exhaust, and header…I just want my current motor to keep on running good for another month or so since i am getting ready to get my swap. But yes, hopefully giving it a basic tune-up will fix the problem since this old motor is still very strong.

That sensor doesnt have a tendency to go out that often. I have right around 135000 miles on my teg and it is pretty well modded and it runs great, except for that lumpy idle from my cams and flywheel…
It could be a dirty injector too, or you could have gotten some bad gas…

yeah, maybe the bad gas got to it also…oh well i’ll check it all out this weekend…My pops is friends with the owner of a distributor for fuel system parts, i’m gonna hit him up about gettin me sum injectors and a fuel filter…I just hope my car doesnt decide to take a dump on me on the freeway? or will it? thanks…you have been very helpful…=)
It isnt something that you should worry about. Just do the tuneup and see how it runs from there. I doubt it will do it after you get that done. If it does, you might want to look a little deeper into it.

Alright guys, heres the update…My car hasnt been doing this since i last posted about this, which is i think one or two weeks ago…It’s kinda funny bcuz i think it was just some bad gas…Damn, i knew i should not have put Arco gas in it that one night…I’ve been using Chevron gas since then and it hasnt happened again…Go figure…=)
