Is the AC belt sopposed to move when the AC is off?

Im pretty sure that its not.If I remember correctly when my AC is off the belt usually didn’t move.I recently had a problem with it which I am still unable to diagnose.I can have the AC knob control off and the belt will still be moving.Im thinking its something electrical since the AC was running when the knob froze up,then i put in a new one and it still wont turn off.Whos knows?anyone?

thanks,
ryan

Uh, mine spins all the time, and I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to. When you turn on the ac, a clutch type mechanism on the ac compressor engages the rotating pulley that the belt goes around, and runs the compressor. I dunno what could be causing your problems, good luck

all the belts are moving when your engine is running… they are connected directly to the engine, so if they aren’t turning when the engine is running, you have a big problem! like spikius said, a clutch thingy makes the A/C compressor turn when you push on the A/C button…

HTH!
