my cigarette lighter is not working… like when i push the thing in it will just pop out… and when i put some other accessories theu don’t get any power… can anyone help?
I’m pretty sure there is, I just looked at the wiring diagram for what I think is the cigarette lighter, and it shows a fuse. Check all the fuses under the dash to see if any are blown. Also check the connections to the cigarette lighter. You also might want to use a multimeter first, just to see if it’s getting voltage, in case it’s something not car related.
it might not be connected period.
but yeah, a mulitimeter is good…
Yes,
it is also the same fuse for the radio, clock, reading lights, and the hatch and door lights come on in your gauge cluster.
there’s also a cig lighter relay…
#11 fuse (15A) in driver’s kickpanel is the fuse for the cig lighter…
the relay is located right behind the headunit (mounted on the frame rail)…
there is also a thermofuse built into the back of the nylon socket itself (this is how it ‘knows’ to pop out).
make sure that the molex connector is connected snuggly… If you just had a head unit or similar installed, my first best guess would be a disconnected molex.
take a dmm and clamp the ground lead to a seat bolt and then tap the very back (in the middle) of the cig lighter socket (you should get 12V or higher with the key turned).
There are also 2 1.5A lights that run off this circuit – 1 for the ashtray and one for the head unit (if these wires shorted to the shealth of the socket, you would eternally be blowing fuses). My best guess is that someone did something unintentional and shorted the circuit to ground…
replace the 15A fuse in location 11 and you should be good to go.
If you want me to email you the schematic, let me know.
HTH

oooops… the lights are 1.4W not 1.2A – a little medicated over here…
LOL

How true that is. I have blown that fuse plenty of times while using the lighter socket to power various items. If it blows, then you have to find the code for the radio(I started carrying it in my wallet, you also lose all your preprogramed stations) and reset the clock after changing the fuse. It can really be a pain, especially if the top right buttin on your radio is messed up so at times it thinks it is always pushed down.
