is this a distributor problem? TPS?

at full thottle my car i guess “studders” i have no other way of explaining it. it like struggles, but this only happens at full throttle. when i hit vtec it does it a lot, and won’t rev up, it seems like i’m hitting a rev limiter, and sounds like it (cause the exhaust pops). could this be miss firing? knocking? i don’t know how to tell if its doing any of those

could this be a bad distributor? the only reason i am thinking it might be cause of that, is that my tachometer jumps, and someone told me that the blue wire on the distributor is what determines where the neetle is on the tachometer.

or could this be a TPS sensor problem, cause this only happens at full throttle, and i used my LS sensor because some lines wouldn’t fit directly on the b16a throttle body, so i just swapped them? is the b16a TPS sensor any different than a LS one?

could this maybe be a knock sensor problem? i thought that LS’s had knock sensors, but after i did the swap, i later found out that LS’s didn’t have knock sensors and that you had to add it to b16’s.

i need info on this, so i can fix this problem… so please if you know anything… thanks

Did your needle jump around previous to doing the swap? Is your knock sensor wired to the ECU correctly? Double check your timing also.

could be a number of things. have you checked the code on the CEL yet?

yeah i did, its 23 and 23 is knock sensor… but i don’t think not having a knock sensor will make my car do this… or will it?

nah, the needle was fine before, but now that the b16a is in, it jumps. my knock sensor isn’t wired to the ECU, but it seems like that wouldn’t really make a difference will it? a guy on the board said that his friend drove his car around without a knock sensor for 2 years and its fine… i mean i still plan to put it on soon, but for not i’ll leave it off

Did you hack anything on the distributor? You might want to check the distributor and try using a different one.

i checked it out, for rust, and i didn’t see much, and the spindle things spins pretty freely, not as free as my LS… i want to try out my LS but i don’t have anything to cut off the leg that hits my vtec solenoid… any ideas?

i highly doubt it is your knock sensor ( at least for that problem ) i’ve had my knock sensor removed for 3 weeks now and it’s doing just fine. hmm… try and ask dan aka. g2guru. he might help. I once had that problem under only under 2000rpms. please inform us when you find out…maybe should archive the thread? anyone else? good luck.

Its your distributor… trust me, Take it from a guy who has been through going on 6 now. I know exactly what youre talking about. I just had the same problem and replaced the dist. and my car runs perfect now… until next week atleast. Good B16a distributors are hard to come by because theyre so old (non odb ones atleast). Good luck.

yea I would check the distributer, my friend had the same problem and it was a loose wire inside the distributer connected to the coil. good luck.
Dan

yup, you guys were right… it WAS my distributor… it runs great now… no more sputtering. i put my LS distributor on, and it fixed my bouncing tachometer problem too! thanks a lot guys. later

how do you get the LS distributor to work? I hacked off teh one arm and i can only bolt the top arm? maybe i did it wrong? it wont work right though?

psh, i’m just running my distributor with the top bolt… but on really tight, i tried moving my distributor around and its secure… don’t worry. it works pretty well. good luck
