ITR Manifold business! (pics)

welll… for anyone who has been following the project i have the b17a TB and manifold removed and im just wondering what can i use to take off the old mannifold gasket that is sealed to the cyylinder head. right now im using a flat head screwdriver but i dont know how to get the gunk off of it, any help would be appreciative.

for anyone who likes pics, check em out.

see those two holes on the b17a one and only one hole on the itr one, that’s supoosedly why you hafta use a b18a, h22a or ITR throttle body, do not attempt to mate the b17a one, just go buy a b18a for like $40- orwhatever it is from a junkyard.

and the infamous…“get that sucker off!!”

thanks guys…

Mechanix gloves are pimp! Love that last picture!

one more thing

Are you getting the B18 TB bored out? Isn’t the B18A TB smaller diameter than the ITR? Also, what gains should you see using the ITR manifold?

jordan

im gonna be runnina b18a TB until i can save mo money to get it bored (maybe XMAS?) i dunno, i dont see spending $250 on getting a sily Tb bored 2 mm as $250 worth of work. personally i’d rather see that money go into a CTR intake cam for $350 or so… we’ll see though. but they suggest you get it bored out to whatever your manifodl is.

from what other members have told me, they say “dont expect a lot of gains from this mod w/ i/h/e” …someone said that the type r manifol LOVED LUMPY CAMS… so that should be next. im just kinda buildling up all my all motor sleeper stufff if you know what i mean. should pull harder above 7k rpms, but once i get my itr valvetrain w/ ctr or itr cams i can rev to 8500 or so safely… if anyone else has any questions or nething to do about this dang gasket i’d love it. seeya

Dude,

I’m in New Zealand so no use telling u where i got my TB bored, but I heard RC Engineering does a good job.

Strange how your IM gasket is stuck. I just used a flat head screw driver to pry it off. Your is a metal gasket right? Try using some CRC. Don’t worry about getting small drops of it in your intake ports. CRC won’t kill your engine (well not small amounts anyway)

the actual gasket is like a hard cardboard, not metal…not sure where you get the metal though. hmm… what is CRC by the way? thanks for yer help. --later

Nice pics, I wish I had the B17A in my car. Just got the B18A for now. Anyway a gasket scraper should do the job of getting the rest of that stuff of of your head, it’s a hell of a lot sharper than a screwdriver. Just becareful not to gouge the mating surfaces, they need to be perfectly flat and clean to seal properly. Hope this helps. Good luck.

well its on there…

well i got a razor and just started going to town. mostly everything is off except for the two outside plugs which i couldn’t clean 100% perfect, but i dont think it will matter, since all the other ones are clean. wasn’t fun i’ll tell you that much. i now put the new gasket on, and the manifold and im just finger-tightening all the bolts— i have to connect ALL the vaccuum lines and get some T fittings and more line to make everything work… then its just a 94+ fuel rail and my friends b18a TB and we’re ready to go. i’m so excited. i know i konw bore the tb but $$$!!! also, i can’t find a 94+ fuel rail— so should i

A.) dump the money on a competition…dont wanna do it cuz i heard they do junk.
B.) get one from g2guru but will take forever b/c of shipping , and i want to go to the final track on sunday
C.) call allllllllllllllllllllllll other junkyards in the world (called the nearest ones)
D.) get a new one from Honda…which will probobly be some rediciulous amount…geez…

well that’s what ive gotten so far. leme know yer thoughts.

btw, site very low and very tight, i luv it.

ps- what connects into the EACV valve…there are 2 stems underneath , and i dont know where those hoses came from? will it make a difference? thanks

man I wish I had the balls to take that out of my car and replace it… I would screw up something for sure… Hey b17a… u have the same name as me. haha…

Dan,

I can send the fuel rail priority mail. It would be there in 3 days (Saturday). Let me know soon, cause if you want it by Sunday, I have to ship it today. The fuel rail is basically brand new.

RedStarGsr,
I have been following your swap. I am looking to do the same thing. Are you swapping on a JDM or USDM ITR intake manifold? Does it bolt right up to the B17 head? Or do you have to do other modifications? When doing it do you have to get a ITR intake manifold gasket or a B17 gasket? Does everything line up and plug together? Is there a certain year ITR manifold you have to get? Sorry for so many questions just want to get everything I need before I start tearing it apart.

Thanks
Brian

ooh goodie-- i can now pass on the advice------ you can PM me if you want i’ll check it frequently. the jdm and the usdm type r manifold are the same except where a hose comes out. so it really doesn’t matter…i forget where i read that, but get a usdm…cheaper…b/c jdm is imported or whatever

you will need –

a 94+ fuel rail…
itr im gasket and TB gasket
Tb off of a ITR or b18a–

all the other stuff you can take off yer b17a. be sure to have ample time to do the swap, (a weekend or so)
that’s pretty much it. PM me and i’ll include more but im out the door. seeya
