I’ve searched everywhere and read teg tips and everything but, I got the radio shack relay, and I don’t know what phsyically goes to each prong and what not, if anybody could please help me out and tell me which ones I wire what to (picture hopefully) that would help out alot… thanks guys…
picture you drew looks great but where doesthe switch come inot play, all i see is the relay, the mirror, the battery, and a e brake ground.
can some one help me out. im sorry if this has been posted before, but it will onlt take a second for someone who knows, thanks guys!
this is the easiest way to wire it. The fold button gives a +12 volts so if you want to wire it to that its not much different than what i have drawn, however this will only keep the mirrors folded while you are holding the button down so it wont keep them folded while you are parked. Thats is why I did it this way. if you want to make them stay folded in when you press the button, you will also need a timing relay and a latching relay in addition to what i have drawn. If you like I can draw that diagram too but I really didnt feel its worth it to go to all that trouble. It would be eaiser to just get the honda relay thats made for the mirrors.
Thanks, anyone know where i can find the factory honda relay? its not like i can visit a local store and buy it and everyone else seems to sell the mirror swtich relay package no one wants to separate just a relay…

how come you don’t want to use the Radio Shack relay?
erniecars: Did you use a radio shack relay? Did you do this install yourself and does it still work good?
yes I used the radio shack relay but once again, please note that if you hook it up to the button the mirrors will not stay closed except then you are holding the button down so wire it to the ebrake or alarm!!!

Are the mirrors spring loaded? Or are they just polarity sensitive for opening and closing?
If the latter, you can use two standard 5-pin automotive relays and use a toggle switch (or two push buttons - one to open and one to close) to operate the mirrors. If done your way with the above relay, not only will the circuit remain active, possibly burning out the mirror motor, but will also put extra unnecessary current drain even when the motors are not in motion. Again, if the mirrors are spring loaded, my statements do not apply. However regardless of such, a momentary push button switch with a circuit looped around the relay’s coil will avoid the need of adding it to the e-brake or alarm output; no need for a latch circuit either to keep it open/closed.
Erik: It was a different type of relay that he used than a standard automotive one.
The mirrors move by polarity but in the same way as the power antenna works so they shut themselves off after a certain point. The relay I used works because it pulls so little power even your car alarm does pulls more power while the car is off. You know that relay that shuts off your ignition when the alarm is active and the car is not running? Thats a larger coil than this one. A toggle swtich would not work any better than the relay.
So by what you say, am I to assume that the retracting circuit for the mirrors is in the mirrors themselves? Because you only have two wires going to each mirror which led me to think that it was not so. Usually there is another (trigger) wire similar to that of power antennas if this was the case, unless the mirrors themselves are grounded by the metal body of the mirrors.
If you can’t bypass this, then yes - your relay choice would be a good one. But what’s the amperage rating of the contacts for that small relay you are using? Do you know what the current draw is on the mirrors while in motion? Just wondering.
I dont know the draw, but I have them hooked up to the e-brake which is also grounded when the car is off thereby only allowing the mirrors to fold when the ignition is on so they should only fold then the car is running. They dont need much power anyway. The relay pulls very little power and it is very tiny, which is why I used it.
I dont know if i can explain it very well but inside the mirrors there are metal contacts which work so that the mirrors use the power to move and once they have moved all the way one direction, the metal contacts are no longer connected so the mirror stops itself. This is similar to the antenna which also stops itself going a certain direction. There is no relay inside either the antenna or the mirros. Then when the polarity is reversed, another set of contacts are now in position so that the mirror will move the opposite dirrection. Thats the best I can explain it. Trust me the mirrors only pull power while the are moving and never any other time.
however, I think Ive is trying to figure a way so that the mirrors can be open and closed using a switch because having your mirrors fold every time you put on the ebrake causes way too much wear and tear on the motors in the mirrors. A better way for me would be to use maybe my accessory button on my alarm.
the problem with having them stay in place with a momentary trigger like the aux out on your alarm or the stock button is that you need a latching relay setup and it gets kindof expensive and complicated. It would be very easy if you have the original relay.
ok i actually found the factory honda relay.
so now if i follow the origonal wirring thats located in “teg tips”… how will they work? by the switch only correct?
so i should now be able to just push the botton and they will close then push the botton again and they wil re-open, i dont have to hold it down or anything liek that correct? sorry guess im a little confused.
and i know all of you are probably wondering why im posting about jdm mirrors if i alreayd dirve a xsi, because my xsi has US doors and mirrors on it now.

yes if u have the original and wired correctly they will close when the button is depressed and released, and open again when depressed and released once again
