My passenger side headlight is A LOT dimmer than my driver side one. When I bought my one-pieces this past summer, it only came with one bulb and socket so I had to go out and buy an h4 socket (which is pretty much the same thing). The aftermarket h4 socket came with a lot of wire and I didn’t take much off when I installed it. And the h4h socket has very short wires. Could this be the problem to my light intensity? Should I go and make the three wires shorter? Will this solve my problem? When I look at the two beams of light, the driver side is a lot clearer and whiter (stock bulb btw) and the passenger is just dimmer and almost brown. Someone please help me.
That’s because you bought an H4 harness man…
If you line the two bulbs up, you’ll notice that the mounting plate on the H4 bulbs is higher than the H4H bulb, so as a result, they are not technically the same distance from each the front of your headlight…
Check this post and it’ll help you a whole bunch more!
Yeah that could be the problem I’m currently experiencing. But as of now, on my passenger side, I’m using an aftermarket H4 socket with the H4H bulb that came with the one-pieces and on my driver side, I’m using the H4H socket with a modified H4 bulb (i.e. I followed the instructions in the Warning Signs/Teg Tips section with the tin snips). And yet, my driver side headlight is WAY brighter than my passenger side. I think the passenger side headlight might be broken or something, like a reflective piece of mirror is missing or something. Can anyone help me please??
Please!! Can anyone help me??
OK bro, this is what u need to check…it doesnt matter if u have an OEM or aftermarket H4 or H4H harness…they basically provide the same use(the 3 wires should at least be the same gauge) The length is not the issue either but what u have to worry about is the wattage of the bulbs u are running…chances are u are running a higher wattage bulb and that is causing the ground wire to burn out and change colors(black wire) also check ur low beam wire and see if it has changed colors or if any of the contacts leading to the wires have melted…if ur light is dimming…that means theres not enough current getting to the bulb otherwise if it was a broken bulb(it would not have been on in the 1st place) Its also a good idea to use the same wattage bulbs so u dont fudge up the electrical system or something.
Thats the problem with those fake HID bulbs that run at higher wattages…they only look brighter but dont give a better light output…and they melt ur wire harness if u dont get thicker gauge wires to run them…good luck and I hope I helped.
Well, today I went to Canadian Tire and bought another H4 harness and some more butt connectors. So now I’m not even using the one JDM H4H harness that came with lights, but instead two aftermarket H4 harnesses. I got everything working!
But get this…
With lights turned off (i.e. daytime running lights on):
- the high beams come on but with half the intensity (like they’re supposed to), but I can turn my fogs on/off by just pressing the fog light button
With lights turned on (i.e. low beam on full power which looks kinda dull if you ask me):
- I can turn on/off fogs (which is prefectly normal)
With high beams on:
- my fogs shouldn’t come on, but they DO! I can turn them on/off whenever I want
So to sum everything up, I can pretty much turn my fogs on or off whenever I feel like it!
It doesn’t matter if my lights are on or off, or whether my high beams are on or off, my fogs will work any time. But from what I’ve heard, you shouldn’t use them all the time because it’ll start melting away the insides of the housings, right? Anyways, thanks for all your help guys! I can finally see again at night!
PS On the Teg Tips, I think the wiring daigram for the passenger side headlight is wrong. It has the ‘red/blue’ wire going to both fog and main headlight.
