LS Rods - Type R pistons

I may stand corrected. I measured the wrist pin on my new pistons and they measured .829 I also measured my PR4 with 187K on them and they also measured .829. Therfore the Type R’s are not any different in the wristpin dept. If what you say is correct than you can use LS rods on USDM Type R pistons. Call me a doubter but are you sure that they aren’t something else? If not then I hope someone other than me learns from this.

I only beat on your F-body because my dad owned one and it was the WORST car I’ve ever encountered. BTW the SHO Taurus never came with the 5.0. It came with a 3.2L DOHC V-6 designed and built by Yamaha. LAter on it was a 3.4 DOHC V-8 also designed by Yamaha.

I say again, USDM ITR pistons do not fit on LS rods without modifications, I JUST had this done last week, saw it with my own eyes.

Here’s what you have to do…

Same goes for B18 or B20 rods. You can machine the piston boss instead of the rod if you like, but it’s not a big deal. Now quit bickering.

im not sure which rods the ctr pistons fit on but i know that the ctr pistons use a floating wristpin, i dont even really understand what this means since every person i asked didnt know but i do know that it uses a rod thats 2mm smaller. i know ls doesnt use a floating wristpin, and jdm itr/ctr’s do. i doubt i helped at all but couldnt hurt right? peace
ps i know the usdm itr pistons will drop right on ls rods.

Your credibility is seriously lacking anyway. ITR piston use a floating wristpin? Come on, man. And you didn’t even know what that meant…

Clearly, you’re definitely the go to guy for engine tech…

now im a little confused. do the rods need to be modified or not? if they do need to be modified, u just shave 1mm off each side of the rod where the piston hits (when its not installed in the block)?

the shop milled my piston in the rod opening. i dunno wtf i was talkin bout. lol

yea, i hate people who talk outa their ass giving me wrong information…

anyway, the machine shop i went to knew exactly what to do. however they are shaving the piston itself to fit the rod. i liked that better. that way if i buy a set of forged rods later, i can use them without modifying again. i’ll reuse the pistons before those rods.

forged rods with used stock pistons?

thats what i said…

the itr pistons are brand new right now… and yes, i’d reuse them before i reuse the stock rods with 45k on them.
