manual to powers doors

i was wondering…if I have a manual door (non-power locks and windows) is it possible to change those to power by taking stuff out of a power door and installing them with the power door panels? How hard is it to do?

I work for a company that makes power window systems. It may not be that easy. In addition, it will cost you $$$ as power window motors are expensive if you buy from the dealer.

The vehicle electrical system has to be compatible too.

Most stereo shops can install power door locks for you for about 50 total for both sides. I had this done on my car when I got my alarm.

If you already got an alarm, chances are you can get power locks hooked right into ur alarm… a lot cheaper than installing stock motors… as for the windows? Leave 'em! Your arm broken? j/k! Just buggin… too much hastle as far as I’m concerned!

Power locks I really want… so shops can convert it for you?

And power windows… meh… I remember using power windows in my dad’s Delta 88… and I remember one day just holding the button to wind it down and the whole window just FELL out… of course, my dad beat me senseless and he kept blaming me that I intentionally did it… wahah go figure!

So yah, since my bad experience with power windows, I never EVER wanna see em again haha…

What exactly is needed to switch from non=power locks to power locks? I saw a package at a local parts store 10 bucks(only saw 1 box though an I think 1 box per door) but from looking at the back of the box, it looks like I could add the mechanism to make it unlock.

but would I need a relay of some sort? and a switch? Maybe I’ll look at the helms manual again or start bugging the guys at work heh

I had to do the driver door of my Del Sol once ( a while ago) when I installed an alarm system. Most hondas don’t have an engine on the driver side door (SAVE BIG BUCK!!!)
The after market modification is nothing but a small gun-like engine that hooks to your locking mechanism. The engine needs its own wiring to the control unit (alarm unit) usually located under the steering column. It can be used for as many doors as u wish (not exceeding 4 of course!!)
When 12V is given to it, it opens, when negative 12V given it locks. The most important thing about this is installation!! If they are installed correctly and fixed properly to the door metal parts, then they will operate for a long time without problems. Otherwise, expect to put in a new engine every 5 month or so!! BY EXPERIENCE~!!
They are fairly cheap, but you have to take out the door to fix them. The second thing is that they make the door harder to lock/unlock manually and if you do, you will destroy the plastic parts of the locking mechanism very quickly.
Get a keyless + alarm machine and have a workshop install them for you. Less headache on the long run!

ok I just want to wire in power locks, an down the road put in an alarm. What kind of control unit would I be looking at if I don’t have an alarm?

It would have to be a key less entry system. You can find them online. However, usualy they come with an alarm already so it will be cheaper (on the long run) and much better technically speaking to get a control unit with a keyless and alarm unit.

The original equipment for central locking could be available from an old used car or something however, I’m not sure if manual cars have already the proper wiring and control system to operate central locks.

What you are looking for is called a doorlock actuator. They usually sell for about 15-20 a piece. Install isn’t to bad the hard/pain in the ass part is the molex plugs in the door jamb. You can use switches to activate the relays that control the actuators. It is much nicer to be able to control via alarm instead of some switch. plus you will be more able to protect your teg form theft…and we all know that is important. I hope that helps a little more.

ya I found the actuators but I think I’m gonna need an alarm or something so I’ll do it all at once, save me the trouble an run all the relays an wires.

Thanks

Sahved door Handles

Since we are talkin about power door locks, Is it wise to install Shaved door handle kit. I want a sleek look to my Integra… I found a kit for 109.00. Should i do it. Last Month at the mall a guy followed my wife and I out to the car, and i didn’t feel comfortable so in the future i just want to hit a switch. I’m also dropping in a gel cell battery.  :stuck_out_tongue:
