Multiple distributors going bad??

Ive been through 4 distributors with my b16 now what the hell? I heard this can be a result from a valve clearance problem? Anyone?

The distributors are the Achilles heel for almost all Hondas. And I’m guessing you are using JDM B16A distributors. They have a history of going out. It’s hard to find one in good shape from Japan. It would almost be better to get a 90-91 USDM subassembly and hack one of the legs off to use on your B16. At least then you know you have a sub-assembly that’s in new condition. Now if it’s your ignitor or coil, just replace those units with new ones. Expensive, but well worth it.

What part is the ignitor?? Like where in the dist. is it?.. maybe thats part of the problem… thanks for your help

once you open up your distributor you see a small little brownish looking square with 4 plugs going to it. thats ur igniter. the only thing holding it should be 2 screws on the outer side of the distributor. hehehe i dint know what that was till my teg died and i had to open up the dist. good luck wit the distributor probs

ohh right on i know what youre talking about… thanks

haha no prob, i dint know if you would understand my oh-so-descriptive directions

I have gone through 3 myself. This is what I did, and have been driving on for 7,000 miles now. I cut one of the legs off of the B18A distributor, and have it held on by only one bolt. I was questioning it at first, but it does hold on very good. Email me if you have questions. TAG1080@aol.com
