it’s hanging down on one side…the passenger’s side…but before i do anything drastic i figured i’d ask…would just some rtv sealant do the trick? i think what happened was the threads in the housing got stripped somehow (no idea how) and it came out…the bolt just goes in and out, no threads left inside. any help is appreciated, i’ll get a couple pics tomorrow. but it’s bedtime now.

Just take that bad-boy out. Or, be cool like me and get a hatch that doesn’t have that third brake light.
Seriously though, have you considered taking it out? I would. A friend of mine had a 92 RS, and his was doing similar to yours, all he did was take it out. Looked much better IMO.

I have removed mine as well. Some people say it might be illegal some say it’s not. It’s your call.
i’d be all for taking it out except for those two holes that would then leak rain water (one already does)…suggestions?

there is no thread in the plastic housing. It’s held on with two Metal Nuts. One of the nuts probably vibrated loose and fell off inside the plastic housing. Look for it.
If not, Take the other one off, and go to the Hardware store and get a new one.
how will this keep it from leaking tho? sorry still not following (finals are next week and brain = fried).

If you replace the nut and bolt the third brake light back up the way it belongs, it has no reason to leak.

I heard that here in Florida it is illegal for cars (not trucks or vans)made after '83 to have less than 3 brake lights, for safety issues… I’m not sure though… I am having a similar problem with my light, so if this is not true I’ll definitely remove that sh!t… can some else from Fla verify this for me??
I’d like to get rid of my brake light as well because this bad boy is going in soon hopefully. What does everyone use to fill in the holes in the glass?
