My future

Ok, I’ve been doing quite a bit of research and i figure that in a couple months I’ll start with my car. I figure I can get close to $7000-$8000 by the end of the summer. I’m hoping to get somewhere close to 200 whp. Do you guys think its possible with this setup?:
JDM B20B swap
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
Clutchmaster stage 3 clutch
I/H/E
Mass air flow meter
Throttle Body
F-Max Turbo kit

I’m thinking I will run about 7-8 psi on the stock internals unless I have more money than i thought by the end of all this. So anyways I am hoping to have around 200ish whp after all this is done. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks

One thing if your going turbo you wont need that intake or header. And you’ll want to get a larger exhaust to accomidate that turbo.

don’t need a maf either.

It’s going to be tuff to get that all in at your budget, even if you do all the work yourself.

I suggest dropping the B20, there are so many better answers now than say 1-2yrs ago. Although the B20 swap is cool there are cheaper alternatives to create just as reliable power. Unless you found an awesome deal on a B20, seek other alternatives. Resleeve and Bore a b16/b17 or built LSVTEC’s.

I forgot about the intake and exhaust thing. B17Vortech, I dont have enough no how to put together a solid, well constructed LS/Vtec, and as for the B16a, I was going to do that swap at first but then I figured that a newer JDM B20B is a safer bet than a 10+ year old B16a. I know that how old it is really doesn’t matter to much but it makes me a little more confident of what I am putting my money in. Plus the B20B is only $900 or so at www.jspecjdm.net.

Most people that are getting good results out of a b20 are getting it out of a LSVTEC version with a b17a,b16a or b18c5 head. I would try to find good results on boosting a b20b first, definately get rid of the intakemanifold that comes with the b20b.

How do you figure? $7000 is plenty.

b20b: $1200 (shipped)
reuse old tranny: $0
f max turbo kit. $3565.00 (plus shipping)
misc parts/fluids/rental equipment: $700 (Exaggerated)
clutch: $500 (Exaggerated)

Total: $ 5965.00

@ 9 psi this setup should put down 250 - 260 hp.

I think its a sweet setup. good luck.

He’s got more than that in his list of goodies…he’s got

Skunk2 Intake Manifold
I/E
Throttle Body

too…plus all the unexpected stuff…

How do you figure 250whp @ 9psi? Who is the majic tuner that you and integracon know?

I reccommend that you just go with a mildly built B18A, you’ll know the motor is fresh and it will give very good <-RELIABLE-> performance. Don’t need no stinkin’ torque suckin’ VTEC…

That is true, if he gets:

Skunk2 Intake Manifold $ 300
$ 700 for custom exhaust and throttle body. it’ll be closer.

as far as magic tuner… I’m not familiar with who integracon is getting numbers from, however, I went to Alamo motorsports in Arlington, TX when I was picking up my tial wastegate; There was a civic CX hatch with a b18b motor and drag III turbo kit being dynoed. It pulled 255 @ 9 psi. The guy, jack, showed me the dyno sheet. I didn’t get a chance to look under the hood but he just said b18b motor so I’m assuming stock. I didn’t think 250 hp @ 9 psi would be too far off for a b20b.

Your sig says 230 hp, what PSI were you running?

Later

I’m running a little under 12psi with an AFC for EM.

Thanks red b16a, it would be bad ass if i could get 260whp. I was only expecting 200 maybe even less but now I’m real anxious to get it done to see what I actually put down.

  • about $1500 at least for labor

There is no ‘magic’ tuner, bro. I’m assuming your referring to the post where the guy asked how much boost would it take to make 200whp on an LS engine. Unless I’m mistaken I told him 6-8 should get him there. I don’t see how this is magic tuning… Unless he’s using a T25 snail, a standard T3/T4oe sized turbo should get those numbers. Turbo sizing is critical in stating hp to boost levels-a small turbo is going to tail off in power in the higher RPM’s as compared to a bigger snail(even T3/T4b’s compared to T3/T4e’s) Did you see the post in HondaTech where the guy in the B18C is pushin over 370/wheels at just 7psi? Before he upgraded his turbo to the bigger snail, he was pushin 280/wheels with the same motor and same boost levels.

its all the little stuff that adds up labor fule managment and what not.
you could do it for 7-8 grand so long as you dont boost over 7.
I think 7 on a tuned b20 car should yeald 220-240whp
asuming you get all thoughs parts you had mentioned.

Doesn’t surprise me with a VTEC engine. It probably gets 2 ftlbs or torque too. And with that compression ratio it’s no big surprise.

Man, you sound like you hate vtec. :stuck_out_tongue:

That b18c had 9:1cr but with a fat 60-1/ t3 .82ar turbo.
