my new setup / results / comments / etc etc

ok, i guess when i said that i was done with my car with the greddy kit, i lied. hahaha. it was being sold to me for $500 from a buddy on the team. but another firend wanted to buy it, and the turbo was kinda small. the kit i was running was a GReddy kit for a EG civic… sohc. modified to dohc. cheap, effective, great low end power. i ran a 14.6 with it at the track @ about 93mph or so.

now, my new setup. for people who know me, you guys know my setup, for people who dont, we all call it a high compression b18a1. im the guy that has the “ITR internal blocked b18a1” jdm ITR crank, pistons, rods, etc
with a non-vtec head.
(wont have pics till later on, but i’ll try to get a buddy to come over with a digi)

-some info-
compression should be at about 10.8:1
im peak boosting at 9psi
obd-0 unchipped
FMU

-motor-
high compression LS
b20 head, 92-93 LS cams
b18b intake manifold, minor port and polish.
minor bored out throttle body, minor port and polish.
fpr - set at 40psi

-turbo setup-

  • T3 turbo from a Ford Thunderbird automatic. oil only. wastegate on downpipe flange has been blocked off seperate. 3" dump off of the turbo straight down.
log style manifold, wasetgate off of the 3rd runner. near 4th, it’s doing alright. no boost creep.
  • wastegate from a DRAG gen3 kit w/ seperate dumptube
  • 1st gen crushed bov
  • 2" ABS (plastic, it’s like pvc) chargepiping. GReddy FMIC (changing to a starion intercooler this weekend)
  • home-depot made fittings/spring/ball manual boost controller
  • K&N cone type filter directly onto turbo

-tranny/etc-
LS tranny
6 puck sprung ACT
heavy duty ACT pressure plate
ITR flywheel

setup took me about 3 - 5 days setting up, doing all the piping, welding the downpipe onto the flange, cutting and welding the bov from a 1.5" pipe, to a 2" pipe. and mostly waiting for my wastegate and parts from a friend borrowing it.

it runs pretty good, feels a little bit faster then the GReddy kit, but i have much much more top end. low end is well also. but i think i can fix it when i fix a few bugs.

im planning on trying to get turbo-edit, or something to work with my obd-0. i need to get a safc and other stuff too. but as the way things are going right now, i havent really spent much money on my setup, and chip, safc, etc for tuning will cost about the same, or more then my setup.

i raced a friend with a 96 civic hatch w/ H22 . he had an intake/header/exhaust. and with both of us having pretty bad launches, me spinning most of first gear, my front bumper, was at his rear bumper when we got up to about mid 4th gear. about 95mph.

and another friend with a rsx-s a-spec, intake/DC race header, gapped exhaust, from a 70mph, i can get ahead of him by mid 4th.

so now after i can get this setup quieter, i think i’ll be a little bit happier. but then as for being done, im only seeing more ways to go faster. so im in search for a better condition bare vtec head, and cams. then i’ll see how it runs from there.

depending on how rules will work at the track, i’ll see about driving my car out to sac raceway or infinion one of these wendsdays to see what it runs.

todo list:

  • downpipe made to rest of the exhaust with a cutout flange that i can just open up.
  • o2 sensor installed
  • chip
  • injectors
  • some type of tuning
  • better tires

far todo list:

  • vtec head
  • ecu & chip
  • more tuning

thanks for reading. comments welcome.

my setup is depressing to look at now…

so ghetto, things hangin on cloth hangers…

alot of smoke everytime i drive now, and barely holds an idle…

im going to attempt to de-ghetto it… and try to see what i can do to have it run better…
