need help with cooling issue!!!!!!! for people using half rads need your help

ok thats a pic of my engine bay. for the people who can’t see my mani took alot of room so ii’m running a half rad with my stock fan…now my dp is less then 2 inches from the back of the rad…but it’s heat wrapped…

the problem is that in city driving the needle really doesn’t move but once i get on the highway it will shoot up and overheat unless i turn on the heat to counter it…and that only works to a point…

the engine is fine…thats backed up my comp and leakdown…new rad cap and lower temp sat… and the fan is wired on constant…also yesterday on my way back from first state motorsports i seen steam coming from the res tank…
my gues is i need another fan mainly b/c when it does shoot up by turning on the heat the needle with immed… start going back down…

so why questions are…

  1. why is there steam coming from the res tank ?
  2. do i need another fan for the front or to high volume fans to replace my oem…

what u guys think?

is it a dual or single core half radiator…i think everyone on here that is running the half is running the dual because otherwise you dont get enough cooling…if you arent already running a dual i would suggest getting one and get another fan that is reversible and put it in the front of the radiator instead and have it push the air…thats my suggestion…hope that helps

ok do u know what year civic rad i need that would be a dual half rad

if the engine dosn’t get hot when driving in vacume but , gets hot after boosting and when you check the coolant level it is low. You then have a BLOWN headgasket. It drove me nuts for 2 months because it never gave me the normal symptoms, then 1 day the gasket finally went completely bad(missing, white smoke, milky oil). I was using a Half size fluidyne copy.

under boost the coolant was pressurized and was blown out the overflow, causing the engine to get hot.

son of a bitch…dude i think thats it…i called import guys…first state and they said the same thing…i drove about an hour before i stopped and once i did there was alot of steam coming from the overflow bottle soon as i told him the he said gasket was gone eventhough i passed comp and leakdown…

people that are thinking of going turbo listen

MAKE SURE WHOEVER DOES YOUR INSTALL KNOWS THERE SHIT…I USED A SHOP JUST CAUSE IT WAS CLOSER INSTEAD OF GOING WITH MY GUT…NOW I’M SPENDING THE SAME MONEY TWICE…MY GASKET WAS DONE ON THE ORG INSTALL BUT AS U SEE ALL HE DID WAS FUCK ME… SO FAR I’LL HAS TO GET MY CROSS MEMBER CUT… HAVE MY OIL LINE REDONE AND NOW I HAVE TO SPEND ON ANOTHER GASKET… …

thanks for the options…looks like i’m dropping another 700 into this car…

how much boost were u running when ur hg blew? Did it blow because of detionation or too much boost? Im in the middle of goin boost so i am trying not to blow a hg

i doubt it ever blew…i believe the org gasket put on my k-mod racing on rt.22 wasn’t done properly…i’ve had this problem since i got my car back from the shop they pretty much fucked up my car now i’m paying for it…my advice i your going turbo and having a shop do the install ask to speak to some of there past customers…

Mine blew from running too small of a fan(the first week), and re-using honda headbolts. I thought it coulda been the small rad. but, now my friend is using the same one without a problem.

i have a question for u…how is your idle with your bov vacum hooked up with the dashport valve?

also i have several friends that just took out their thermostat and their cars run fine. In the winter you might have a problem with the heat but thats about it.

Al, it sucks soemone dicked you on the kit and the HG install, as they are two very easy jobs. But we will see to it that you get set straight

thanks josh…i’ll be seeing you again around the begining of june for the fix…your now my official shop  FIRST STATE MOTORSPORTS

i agree. a comp/leakdown test may come out fine, but with a small gasket leak, it may only leak during a hard run/highway. my quick comp/leakdown tests came out ok, but when i left the pressure in there for a few minutes, the compressor slowly built up pressure through the leak and into the fluid. when i removed the radiator cap, fluid gushed out.
new oem gasket and arp headstuds did the trick.

Exactly, Al’s compression and leakdown were perfect. 180ish in every cylinder and less than 2% in each cylinder. But that doesnt always mean there isnt a gasket issue. Rest assured, we are gonna do an .040 cometic gasket, water pump and studs in there…

damn, where is this shop?
i’ll make sure i never go there.
if you want to try to get this fixed somewhere a little more local, try stage2 performance on rt1 in north brunswick.
im good friends with the guys over there and they build some fast cars over there

i spoke with some guys down @ stage 2 they told me it was my turbo seals which i believe are going anyways…thanks for the suggestion but i’ve learned my lesson…i’m rocking with f.s.m. work is on point and willing to work with me and besides…josh rocks a gen 2 so he knows the car inside and out…

hey josh i have arp’s in there so i’ve been told…well i know i paid for them…

also whatabout the smoke @ idle is that related to the hg or thats def the turbo

o the shop is called k-modified racing on rt.22 in scotch plains,nj :gunright:

about stage 2…my thing is if i come to u with a car problem not only do i want you to give me your opinion but also look @ my car so i’ll know your just not talking out your ass…stage 2 didn’t do that…i went there first…told them about my problem and the two guys started throwing probably this and that…after already investing 3.5k and still having problems i DON’T WANT TO HEAR SHIT LIKE THAT…SO FOR THAT REASON I CAN’T RIDE WITH STAGE 2 @ THIS POINT

oh i never hear of the place or even seen it and i drive around there all the time…
anyways i hear you on stage 2… i know those guys personally and i know they know their stuff… im sure if you just asked them to look at your car, they would have, especially cliff since he has a 2nd gen also. I know those guys are busy over there right now working on a whole mess of cars. they dont even have room to put any of those cars anymore. If they are that busy, they have to be doin something right. Well, good luck with your car and i hope you get everything worked out and im sure i’ll see you at an event or something around here.

the steam coming out of your radiator after boosting = blown headgasket simple as that. blown turbo seals wont cause your radiator to overflow but, will cause you to smoke blue.

We may not be right around the corner, but we have many customers from jersey, new york, maryland, virginia…They come to us for one thing, perfection. Thats why the majority of our customers have s2000’s, Nsx’s, supra’s…But our roots our hondas, and you can always stop by and see serious turbo and all motor cars being built
