Need help with jdm b16 swap

i read the search topic on the whole swap but there are a few things i dont understand?
-the wiring harness that comes with it will not work on my car if it comes with a jdm ecu?
-and if i can use this harness then i wont have to change all the injetors and distributor right?
-why do i need a different clutch shouldnt it just all hookup?

  • any other hints would be helpful doin swap at the end of this month, any complications people came across, shortcuts etc
thanks alot guys i rely on you all for help with these things

You can go about the wiring different ways. The 90-91 Tegs are non-OBD and the 92-93 are OBD-I. The ECU that you can buy with the engine PR3 or PW0 are non-OBD. So if you have a 90-91 Teg, it’d be easier to use the ECU that came with it. I’m not sure if the exisiting wiring harness would work with it…it should since it is non-OBD wiring (can anyone verify that for me?) In my case, I have 92 Teg. For me, it was easier to stick with OBD-I rather than convert everything to non-OBD. I used my exisiting wiring harness, used a P28 ECU (OBD-I from 92-95 Civics) reprogammed to DOHC VTEC specs, and my exisiting injectors and distributor (with on leg cut off so the VTEC solenoid can fit). I also used my exisiting A/C unit too. When you change the injectors, make sure you check the small circular gaskets. Mine just fell apart and gas leaked. They’re about $2 per ring from the Acura dealer. Make sure you remember where which vacuum hose goes where.

Oh, and don’t forget the three wires for the VTEC!

Refer to the engine swap guide located here.

so lets say i sell all the stuff i cant use like the harness injectors ecu and distributor, if i came across all that out of an obd1 b16 or and obd1 b18c would i be able to use it… ie: gsr ecu distrib and injectors with my stock harness?

i bought my car from the depths of the junkyard and it used to be a rice teg you know with every electrical nightmare on it so i dont know if i trust my stock harness but well see.

and also what was mentioned about the clutch, i looked at the guide but i dont understand, why should i have to change the clutch?
hey thanks for all your time guys

Will this work??

i have a chance to get a 93 gsr harness and a 96 gsr ecu will that combination fit with the eacother and the jdm b16 please let me know

Well if it’s a JDM engine then chances are that it’s been sitting around for a few good years (A), and the clutch is probably rusted or something, (B) although they say that JDM ngines have low mileage, they CAN have anywhere from 10,000-100,000 km (60,000 miles for you friendly people south of the igloo) in which case the clutch is probably worn out and (C) can you imagine what rush hour in Tokyo can do to one’s clutch year after year day after day?

Hehe…good point there. It is always ALWAYS a must to do a visual inspection of the parts that could be weary. I got my engine from an acquaintance that got me the best engine he had so in my case, parts on it wasn’t as bad as can be. I’m using the clutch that came on it and it works fine (even though I want to replace it ;)) Though, it is recommended to change out to new OEM or aftermarket parts.

Justin: About the wiring, I’m not too sure about it so I can’t tell you. Can’t help ya out there.

the 96 ecu has obdII 92-95 GSR HAS OBD I
