Ok, so far from what people here have been telling me it seems as if i might be better off buying a new engine. So my question is which should i buy. I would like to spend no more than 1,000 and i would probably be etempting to put it is myself. So what are your opinions. Like i have said in previous threads i want ro run 12’s streetable. My previous idea was to just get a new ls and try a ls/vtec setup and get around to turboing it late this summer. This to me sounds good because I already have an ls so i know everything will match up and it seems to be the cheapest next to the b16 which i just dont want to do. Also where can i find these prices. All help is apreciated ![]()
your not gonna be able to do much with just a grand to spend…a b16 swap alone will cost a grand and you’ll still be running high 15’s

ls with nos 120 shot and more misc stuff
or ls fully built motor boosting 14 to 18 psi
or ls/vtec fully built with atleast 10 to 14psi
its going to cost alot of money to get a g2 into 12s , 13s are more likely and cheaper
cheapest engine swap out there is the 89-91 b16a, and thats gonna cost you at least $1100 (more like $1200-$1500) for the swap.
the ls/vtec will cost you about a minimum of around $2250, and thats for an incredibly basic setup without any frills. Its quite easy to spend $2500-$5000+ on an ls/vtec.
Ok, I AM LOOKING TO SPEND 1000 ON THE ENGINE@!!! Just the engine thats it! installation and other stuff set aside. I WANT TO BUY AN ENGINE. Not including the vtec setup. Just the basic engine. Before mods.!
dude thats what we’re trying to tell you. the cheapest thing out there is the b16a, and it costs more than $1000. You can pick up the longblock by itself for about $450, but then you need a tranny and an ecu as well, add those to the equation and you gotta get a full swap which is gonna run you about $1200. this is no frills, no added stuff, just a basic engine swap.
12s timeslips for g2 means alot of money invested
well you could buy a b20z from hondamotorsonline.com (shameless plug)for $850 and just boost with that…Or you could buy American’s bottom end(shameless plug) and use your stock topend and send it out for porting , then boost on that…This way you know that the bottom end is sleeved and can handle the boost…I think a fully built b20z turbo could pull 13’s at least…
