Need to know...

Ok this is gonna be kind of long, but here’s what’s wrong with my teg…

Basically i will turn off the car, and sometime si can come outside 30 minutes later and the right driver side radiator fan will be running, and im guessing it is runnign down my battery, because i have found myselkf having to use my ‘battery booster’ a whole helluva lot just to get my car started, other than that it runs fine… i’ve checked the alternator and hte battery with a tester so i know those aren’t it…

I think it might be a relay switch or something for hte fan, but i dunno how i would check this, or could it be a temperature sensor? oil temp sensor? i really cant think of anything else…

Anyone knowledgeble please help, my e mail is shiva@nc.prestige.net

Thx to those that help.

You might want to try disconnecting the negative cable off the battery while the car is running. Leave it like this until the fan turns on. Basically, the alternator should supply all the electricity the car needs while the engine is running. If not, then your alternator might be on its way out the door. I need someone to confirm though.

what ever u do dont disconnect the negative wire that will possibly blow up ur alt. or possibly fry ur ecu. after u drive ur car shut off the engine and leave the key on run and see if ur fan is on normally it shouldnt come on if it does its probably the relay.

I have a haynes manual but couldn’t find where the relay is, do you happen to know? cause another friend of mine said it was probably that too, but i couldnt find it in the haynes manual, or im just blind

Thx for your help.

First never unhook your battery cables when the car is running, this could send a voltage spike and damage your altenator or ecu. As for the relay for the drivers side fan it is on the drivers side of the fan about halfway down. Its about one inch square.Mine was staying on to so I removed the realy and have been running with out it. I keep an eye on the temp gauge and it has not gone up past halfway. I will replace it before spring.

hey, I know your problem… check your timer relay! I know that there is a timmer circuit that cuts the power after 15 Min. max from the fan. This circuit is probably gone and your fan just keeps runing. Replace it and your are good to go.

Happy new year everyone
