Hey everyone,
lately there have been alot of posts about troubles with installing headers/breaking the 02 sensor, my dc ss headers will be in soon and i am wondering if i should have a spare o2 sensor just in case, more importantly i have been having trouble finding an oem sensor for reasonably inexpensive, what should a good oem sensor cost, and where can i get one???
Oh and i quick tip: if you are painting your interior over in white, and when u put it back in you chip the paint a bit, just use a little white out to cover it up…it works better than resanding and painting and suprisingly enough it lasts a while!!!
90-91: 1 o2 sensor, located on the left runner when the runners are in front of the radiator. The 90-91 O2 sensors cost 25-35 bux.
92-93: 2 o2 sensors. 1 located almost the same as the 90-91, and the second one located on the bottom flange, half a foot-foot away from the cat. 92-93 o2 sensors cost 70+.
I would replace your o2 sensors, you’ll feel increase in mileage, less hestitation and better emissions. All of the things i stated are what i felt when i replaced mine.
Good luck taking your stock ones out tho, they’re probably seized in the threading.
thanks for the info: i have a 92 teg gs milano red:
mods: aem cold air
type r short shifter
clr corner/bumper
soon to be dc ss header…
when replacing my stock header, i am only going to have to deal w/ the lower sensor near the cat right??? will i break the stock o2’s when i install the new headers??? i had one quote for a new oem 02 sensor for $165.00 thought that was kinda steep.
thanks for the help.
If you have a 92, then you’ll have to get two o2 sensors. Go stop by your local auto parts shop and ask them how much. I got a boshc one, they’re all basically the same. If the quote was 165 for TWO o2 sensors, then that’s about the right price.
The one on the bottom pipe is not on the cat, but on the 1st bottom pipe connecting to the header themselves. Its located on the top of the pipe. (you’ll see when you get your dc headers, they’ll have a hole for it)
When you stated about breaking your stock o2 sensors. IT depends on how seized they are into your stock exhaust manifold. IF they are seized pretty bad in there, then taking it off will strip the threads of the sensor.
Also depends on how careful you are in removing the stock o2 sensors from your stock exhaust manifold.
Yeah, grab some new sensors, it’s the easiest, and best way to match that new header … yum … I bought a new Bosch sensor with my DC ss … worked great …
Only install pain was the manifold/downpipe flange bolts … really rusted on there … bust out the WD40, and try them while they are a little warm.
I think the Bosch site quoted me around $30 apiece for the sensors, pretty cheap i think. Yeah the dc ss’s are an early xmas present for myself…hehe. Oh and i replaced my plugs yesterday they could’ve possibly been original (only 70k mileage) ad they were really worn, with new ngk’s…holy **** what a difference, am i crazy or can plugs make that much difference???
Oh, and is getting a “test pipe” to replace my cat conv a bad idea i know its illegal but i have a friend who can set me up with an inspection. I know those regulations out in cali are real tight.
guys, are you sure about the TWO o2 sensors for the 92-93 teg? I’m runing on a bad O2 sensor and I’m about to order NTK sensor and replace the one down near the cat…
Originally posted by AzNKT damn i thought the second one was by the runners. Oh well.
90-91- 1 O2 sensor
92-93- 1 HO2 sensor
the only real difference is the OBD system’s relationship with the heating coil on the 92-93 sensor. This is where the cost differential is. A few people have mistakenly assumed that the sensor on the intake runners on the 92-93 tegs is an O2 sensor when in fact it’s a temp sensor (much the same as the CTS). This is nobody’s fault b/c all known manuals (Helms included) have done a poor job explaining the relationship between the CTS and the sensor on the intake.
but… for the record… all tegs only have one O2 sensor. I think Legends may have 2… not positive though.
no, installing your dc headers will only involve you to deal with the o2 sensor.
Neex is talking about a sensor located on your Intake Manifold which deals with air intake temperature.
And i coulda sworn there were 2 o2 sensors in 92-93s? Oh well i could be wrong since i only own a 90.
My '93 (Canadian) has only one O2 sensor as does my friend’s who has the USDM version… There were definitely Hondas with 2 but not an Integra to my knowledge.
Andrew.
I have pics somewhere if anyone is really THAT interested.
annnnd about the sensor of the intake runners… you will only ever need to change this if for some reason you replace your whole intake manifold or it goes on the blink. The Intake Air Tempt (IAT) almost never goes bad… the ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) sensor is a different story… down all the time… This is one of the leading causes of ‘failure to start’ problems…
New Discovery;
after searching for ages for my O2 sensor, my Honda agent informed me that Honda Integras that came with GCC specs did not have O2 sensors because emmission regulations are relaxed here!
However, I still have hesitation below 3k rpm and it only comes on after the car is in its normal operating temp. He suggested Engine Coolant Temp fualty! Any clues??
