Oil light flashing after hard stop?

Hey Dan, BR, J, and all the other gearheads…

I’ve had the following happen on the way to work today:

Driving along fine, except have to brake hard for stop… once the car stopped, the oil warning light starts flashing. The light resets when I restart the car… Glove box manual says blinking light might be drop and/or fluctuation in oil pressure? I figured I’d check my oil when I get outta the office today.

Any thoughts/recommendation? Diagnosis?

Any help you guys can kick me down with is mighty appreciated!

You’re low on oil.

Solution: Add oil.

Thanks, Steve

Thanks, Steve - you’re the man…
I’ll top her off when I get to the parking garage… I’m due for a change anyway.

dluck:)

Doh… dumb question…

Hey all sorry if this was a dumb question… :frowning:
But I’ve got dumb-luck so better safe than sorry!

Thanks All!

Don’t worry about it…we all have brain farts every now and then.

Also, if you’re ever going through a hard turn and your oil light comes on…add oil.

You have mail dumbluck, your answer is in it…
Just for reference. When the oil light comes on then turns off you are low on oil. When the light starts blinking on and off that means that you oil pump had no oil in it for a couple seconds due to your low oil level…

B R Thanks

Thanks for the tip.

yeah and while your changing your own oil, and you go to start her up and hear a LOUD clacking noise… put the new oil filter on the block ! <~ learned that one the hard way LOL.

yeah then add FOUR MORE quarts of oil afterwards!!!

i would stop by any gas station and put some oil in… it’s bad to drive around low on oil

then go get that oil change…

Thanks all…

Yup topped her off after work - gotta hit some quicklube place tomorrow (and make sure they don’t leave the frickin oil filter half off)… no time for love Dr. Jones.

And be sure to check your oil regularly, between oil changes. Our cars have a history of using alot of oil.
