i need some help in deciding! ok ive talked to a few members but yet i still cant make up my mind exactly! i know for sure that my motor will be n/a! its already out i just cant figure out what type of cams, valvetrain, intake mani, cam gears and psitons i should go with! the clutch i fure clutchmasters or act 6 puck and i will probaaly get a 7.5 flywheel! the reason i ask is b/c i dont have a whole lot of experience in the engine dept! i also want to know what else i might be forgetting! thx ps im looking to spend about 2 to 2500 dollars doing my engine rebuild!
how about some porting. as far as crower goes i cant get any positive feed back even with people that have them. i dont know if anyone can add to this or show me some positive crower exsperiences. if not i know alot of local shops offer a head package.
Pistons: You’ll definitally want to raise your compression ratio. I if you buy JDM ITR pistons, they will raise your compression to 10.8:1. You’ll have to mill the rods 1mm on each side to get them to fit.
Price $300-350 new with rings
Cams: If you want to get “bang for the buck” you’ll probably want to go with the ITR/CTR combo. These will make power up to 8,600 rpms and you’ll need ITR springs.
Price $450 and up.
Intake Manifold: Your B17A1 IM should be fine. If anything get the throttle body and bored out or replace it with a bigger one. Then bore out the opening on the IM where the TB goes.
Price $ <—really depends on what you do.
Cam Gears: AEM are ok, but some people don’t really care for them because they only have 3 bolts holding them together. Other ones have more bolts and the more bolts you have the less likely they are to slip.
On cams, Mike K on honda Tech seems to have good luck getting nice power out of using the Jun 2 intake cam and ITR exhaust, probably really good bang for the buck.
Go CTR or the new Skunk2 Stage 1 Cams. JDM ITR (10.8:1_ or even CTR pistons (11.4:1). Honda pistons are somewhat overrated so you may be even running less compression then what I mentioned above. Either way will be fine with 91. Steve is correct if you want to rev past 8200 rpms, at the least get ITR intake valvesprings and move your stock GSR intake springs to the exhaust side. Rev to 8600 rpms with no worries there. Since you are on a limited budget, stick with the B17A IM. Get a nice flowing header, JDM 4-1 or DC JDM 4-1. Last but not least, don’t forget about engine management. At the least get a VAFC. If you have time and a bit of extra money (of course) go for a Hondata Stage 2 which is the same price as the VAFC and tune that sucker good. HTHs. Good luck with your motor buildup!
The Hondata Stage 2 is like $350 which is around what you get for a brand new VAFC. You will have to take an authorized Hondata dealer to dyno tune it for you. There is DSR in Mountain View. It’s a much better setup compared to just the VAFC. Check out their site www.hondata.com for more info.
If you have the money, go for the ITR IM but you won’t really need it unless you are going super high compression and really aggressive cams. The performance gains won’t be worth the extra money IMHO.
You should be fine with the stock injectors if you are going with the JDM ITR pistons. Otherwise I would upgrade to 270s if going with the CTR pistons just to be safe. You won’t need any aftermarket fuel rail. More show than anything else. HTHs. Later.

SGT on honda-tech is hosting a group buy on hondata’s, has pretty good prices, check it out, should be in the Forced Induction forum, its all hondata’s, not just for turbo cars.
questions? opinions! comments! anything maybe im missing [/B]
Yeah, I thought you said you only had $2,500 to play with. That list is getting pretty damn close to that and the clutch and flywheel will definitally put you over. Otherwise, the only thing I’d ad to the list is maybe a P/P job and making sure the deck and head are flat.
With the hondata you can up the rev limiter all you want. Stick with your stock GSR P61 ECU. As far as valvetrain to save you a bit of money just get ITR intake valvesprings and move your stock GSR intake springs to the exhaust side. Then go get some portflow titanium retainers. The crowers are good but I’ve heard of them gailing over time. Not good. Stick with an OE Acura headgasket. Otherwise everything looks good. Later.

Ehhh, skip the crower valvesprings, they are WAY too stiff for your application, valvesprings are tricky, because you want to go the lightest that you possibly can with still being safe and without causing damage. 9100 RPM will probably be overkill for the cams that you are using. What kind of I/H/E will you be using??? I believe type one makes a header much like Jun’s 4-2-1 with a 2.5" collector. With the JDM ITR pistons, you might want to look at getting a mugen or spoon headgasket, you can still go higher than 10.8:1 and still be safe, especially if you get the hondata tuned. For cams, why not go with the Jun 2 intake cam, makes nice power and is only a little bit more. To find out more about that setup, ask Mike K from honda-tech. Oh, one more thing, skunk2 cam gears are GARBAGE!!! the degree markings are off on them lots of times, get some that are a more quality product. Anyways, that’s just my opinion, let me know if you need anything else.
thx josh hey what happened to your g2 did you sell it?
thx for the answers! do you have mike k’s email or # so i can ask him about cams and cam gears! hey leo im gonna email you tomorrow so we can talk some more peace:)
