My car is a bit odd. It runs richer than hell, and hotter then any other teg I’ve seen run. The temp guage is either messed up or on crack. On the freeway it will go to freezing eevery once in awhile. On the way to Salem tonight I stopped to get something to eat and in the drivethru it started to overheat. It does this every once in awhile. I don’t want to crack my block. I had to replace the radiator, timing belt, waterpump, clutch and tranny last summer. I don’t know if the water pump is sucking like its supposed to is there anyway to check that, The hose that goes to the radiator to the block doesn’t feel like there is any water or not much water going thru it. I have to check the radiator and the reservoir bottle every couple of days to make sure there is fluid inside of it. I trusted the shop to fix it correctly but know I know not to trust this shop anymore. If your in Oregon don’t go to Racing Trendz in Eugene they don’t know ****. Another problem I have is my tranny. It grinds every once in awhile in third and fourth. Its a ys1 tranny that I installed last summer. Can the shift linkage have something to do with this. I’ve hit a couple of speed bumps. It feels like when you miss and gear and you hitthe side when you shift. Any help would be great thanks.
Thermostat?
I would say thermostat too. Butt you might also want to buy a new cooling fan or rig yours to run all the time.
I had a similar problem on an older car i use to own, It turned out to be that the dumb ass I bought the car from installed the Thermostat inside out. In the end, I had to replace the head and piston rings. Check it out, it could end up costing you alot!
Good luck
My car use to overheat too…not too bad but if I was at a red light for a while it would start to creep towards the hot side…I took it to my dad’s buddy, Bruce who works at MAC’S RADIATOR (for those of you that live in Cali…he is awesome) anyway, he did a bunch of checks and then told me it ended up being the head gasket…sure enough, its never had a problem since, so if I were you I would have that chemical check done for the head gasket…In the beginning it didn’t even cross my mind about the head gasket because it wasnt overheating all the time, but is was the gasket so if I was you I would spend the $15 for the chemical test and check the head gasket…
Vernon
Hey 2nd2None Im in the Salem hit me with an email …
Check behind your intake manifold…there might be a crack in one of the hoses…that’s what happened to mine. Just have someone check it-replace if needed(a pain) and be on your way!
I changed the thermostat a little while ago. I blew the head gasket last season still ran a 15.1 for three runs with it blown. Don’t let some friends drive your ride bad things happen. I fixed that and did a valve job the same time. I know of one cracked hose ,but would that make me lose so much fluid. BeatuPls503 I hit you up with an e-mail.
hey man check the thermostat. if you already replaced the timing belt and the water pump a little while ago that should be all good. the only other thing i could say is check that air pressure screw right by the thermostat. when u change the thermo. or do a flush, your suppose to release all the air pressure from that screw. a while ago my dad and i changed the thermo. on our 91 civic hb and he forgot to relieve the pressure and the thing overheated like crazy.
sometimes shops forget to do this, youd be amazed at how shops dont know what the hell they r doing.
i had this problem 2 days ago ended up being a lil hoese about3 inches long thats by wheer the thermostat is check tose and yes a l tiny whole like that can make your car over heat when the colling system bulds presure
I’ll check it. I know of one hose that needs to be replaced. I filled up the radiator day before yesterday and yesterday it was overheating again do to lack of coolant. It goes thru this every other day. I’m going to repalce that damn hose. The only thing I wonder about is the hose that goes from the radiator to the block. It feels like no coolant is going thru it or very little. Could that be water pump?![]()
Also make sure to check if there are any air bubbles sittin in the radiator. Just because there’s fluid in the overflow doesn’t nessecarily mean the radiator is totally full. When the car’s cold, take off the radiator cap and start it while sqeezing the top radiator hose. As the car warms up, air bubbles might come out. Then make sure you have some antifreeze handy to replace the air bubbles.
I’ll try that. I’ve had the overflow filled in the past and had the radiator empty at the same time. Thanks
Hey 2nd, I have a 93LS, I’ve only had it since August 01, but I found that when I drove it at a steady speed (let’s say 50) for awhile, and then slowed with an idle or went into bumper to bumper traffic, my teg began to warm up too. I replaced hoses, thermostat, and even the radiator when it broke and made me pull over on the side of the road. I also am getting 220 miles out of a supposed 300 mile tank. I know it is not running rich though because I do not see any color coming out of the tailpipe.
I have been told to put a switch in for the fan, they say it might not be coming on either when it needs to, or ever. So try the fan switch. I still do not have any idea about the gas though, if you find the answer let me know asap! ![]()
