I was trying to change my plugs but # 2, and #4 will not come out. I filled up the wells with wd-40 and let it soak, and tried running the engine a while to warm it up, but they still won’t budge. i’m afraid of taking the threads out of the head if I try too hard to break them loose. apparently whoever had the car last didn’t use antiseize on the threads. the two i got out don’t look bad and they are bosch +4’s but i want to put the ngk v powers that i bought in. anyone had this prob before? TIA
As long as they aren’t cross-threaded in, you shouldn’t damage the head by putting a lot of torque on the plugs to get them loose.
if they ARE cross threaded, you’re already screwed. buy a new head. ![]()
And it sounds like you already knew this, but just a reminder – don’t install the new plugs when the head’s warm… make sure it’s completely cooled off first to prevent this from happening again.
i’ll swap in a new motor before i buy a new head for this pos. I’m just worried b/c this happened to a friend in his celica. when he finally got the plug out it actually busted the threads off the cly head with them. since the two i got out didn’t look bad i guess i’ll just leave them in for now :argh:
Buy a B20 long block for 800 from www.hondamotorsonline.com (well if you have to buy a new head).
Ben
okay i had this problem before with my b18a…
what i did to be safe was go to my mechanic, and have them take it out. if anything breaks hey, you’re already in the right place.
Same problem here when I had my LS. Basically I tried for about two weeks to get it out…everyday I would try and it would move maybe an 1/8 of an inch and that was it…I thought that it was cross threaded…finally one day my buddy (acura master mechanic) came by to visit and asked him if he could do anything…after just making sure that he wouldn’t be responsible for anything he gave it a whirl and about 15 min later it came out undamaged…THANK YOU GOD!!! I thought for sure I was going to need a new head…
oh, and just a FYI, that same day he came over he told me he had a G3 in the shop for the same thing and the worst became a reality and the owner ended up having a $1500. bill
update
I know it has been forever ago when i posted this, but i just want to let everyone know what happened in case anyone else ever has this problem.
My car has been stumbling pretty bad lately so, I went ahead and took another crack at getting the plugs out. I guess from all this time driving around with a little of the wd40 still in the holes and running around for a couple hours to get the car super hot I was able to finely get the plugs to budge little by little w/ a 3/8 long handle ratchet and breaker bar (scary) anyway i got them out and the threads apper fine.
My #1 plug has the ceramic busted in half and it is falling apart. Ironically believe it or not the only thing holding it together is the fact that the plug is one of those bosch +4’s so all the electrode things are holding the ceramic in. I’m still gonna put v-powers in tho.
anyway thanks for all the help!

[B]Well, a while back a spark plug broke off in the head. so i was thinkin ****! because all the shops said that i had to take the head off and it would need to be redone. Well since i had nothing to lose I bought a reverse bit (ez-out style) here are some pics so you get an idea.

I spent about $8 to buy 2 EZ outs. what I did was get a socket extension flip it backwards and put the ezout in the lil socket thing and rapped it with tape so it wouldnt fall out. then i got a vice grip, and clamped the other side to use as a handle to turn it, since I couldnt put a ratchet on the extension. I then had to put a cheater bar on the vice grip cause this threads were in tight like a mother ****. They came right out no problem. This happened 2 weeks after I just got my JG pro series head on… so i was pissed  .
Just a reminder to prevent this from happening again. Coat your new spark plugs with a thin coating of Anti-Seize compound.
