Just yesterday I changed my oil, and realized that my drain bolt is stripped severely, how much is it gonna cost to get a new pan, or is there an easier fix. Also when I was done I checked my spark plugs, 3 of them looked ok but they all needed replacing, however, the 4th one looks like it burnt up, the chamber for the plug looked burnt up and was brown and the wire was brown as well, it wasn’t oil that made it brown either. I replaced the plugs, and now the car is idling pretty rough, and every now and then the tach will decided to jump down like the engine wants to die, but just for a split second. Anyone know what might have happened, and what i can do?
you could tap the hole and get a new bolt…thats what i would do
they sell self tapping oversize plugs i had to put one in a golf
or u can try 1 of them oversized nut that they sell at auto part store…it has a split that looks like a cross at the end of the nut…
ok what about the other problems
Jumping tach is usually related to a vaccuum leak or a timing problem. Have u checked ur timing lately or did u accidentally unhooked a vaccuum line?
Well it’s not really jumping, it’s just a little rough, like it will be running smooth, and then it will feel like it hits something rough, or gets stuck and wants to stop, that the best way i can explain it, the tach doesnt really jump it’s just a weird feeling that its making, rather than just a smooth idle
If it just started running rough since you changed your plugs, make sure all your wires are on tightly… both on the plugs and the distributor. if one’s loose, it would probably do that.
However if it was running rough before too, it’s probably an ignition problem with that cylinder that had the bad plug. change plug wire, distributor cap, and rotor.
