just installed my custom turbo kit yesterday and i ran into a couple of problems after i test drove it. (1) Overheating- i think that i have my water lines to my turbo crossed. i have one line going into the throttle body and the other line going to the head where the line from the throttle body was going. car would drive fine for about 10 min normal driving and then start to overheat, and about 5 mins after driving harder (under boost). (2) Oil leak- started to leak oil pretty bad after a hard drive. Smoking really bad too but only when the car is running. looks like one of the cam seals or the valve cover gasket. (3) car bogs- after normal driving the car was fine. no bogs or nothing. aafter one hard run, it starts to bog now and it bogs all the time now. sounds like its missing. Im thinking it could be the spark plugs. just ordered the zex turbo/nitrous plugs last night. hopefully that will solve that problem.
Any info or advice or wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

bosch platinum fours suck. i had em for a bit, but i had to change them out very shortly afterward. I ran Denso Iridiums, but they burnt out after only about 2 weeks. I’ve got Denso platinums now, they’ve been working really well for a while now.
I use the NGK bkre7 spark plugs and haven’t had any problems for awhile. if yur going to get bigger injectors you’ll need something to control them. your best bet would be to ditch the FMU all together and go with one of the engine management systems they have here, ie… Uberdata, zdyne, turboedit, bre. there is quite enough info on these and are free.
thanks for the input guys. i fixed my overheating problem and my oil leak. i had my coolant lines going to my turbo hooked up wrong, i didnt tee them. they are now tee’d. my oil leak came from a bad valvecover gasket. i have my plugs coming tomorrow. i ordered the zex turbo/nitrous competition plugs from summit. i would love to use turboedit or uberdata but i dont know anybody in my area that can tune this for me. if anyone knows please let me know asap. thanks
sorry to be the bearer of bad news but, you prob. just cracked your ringlands
when the car is running if there is smoke coming out of the valvecover breather or oil filler hole, your ish is shot.
i think that is my case because its too much smoke coming from the valve cover. its called blowby. also i just checked my compression and it has dropped considerably. b4 i boosted it was around 190 or 200 ish and now it is
130, 75, 125, and 30. i think that it is my rings or my pistons.
This is exactly why you should never go and rip on a car the first day out. drive ir for a good while to make sure thhigns are mint then slowly star tto build bosot. dont’ jstu WOT through gears and hope things work. slwoly lay into it in gears and apy attention to yuor rpm’s and your vacuum/boost guage and wat not… ugh
yeah my friend boosted his civic a few months back and has yet to open it up. he gives it a little more throttle in first now but shifts early and doesn’t snatch second like hes tryin to show off. he’s letting everything break in smoothly. that and now his girl has a kid on the way and he claims he “Grew up” overnight. i dont think thats possible. but anyway, he wants to sell it now. if anyones interested (serious only) i’ll give you some contact info. its a 99 civic si with a completely rebuilt block (sorry dont have specs) and a head with valves, springs etc. ported and polished, three angle valve job etc. edelbrock intake manifold and a greddy turbo kit. dont have good specs on it just a bolt on kit with intercooler. skunk2 megapower exhaust with custom pipe to replace the cat. hes askin for 11k. trust me its worth it. very nice, lives in woodstock virginia. drives it maybe once a week. less than 31,000 original miles (last time i was in the car).
well i guess i learned the hard way. but at least now i know. im isending it to je import performance on monday to let them take care of it. new pistons, rings, rods, etc. everything i should have done b4 i boosted it. something told me to drive it easy. but i guess when i felt that turbo spool up i got carried away. it started to spool up at around 3k. after all it is my first turbo car that i built. and your first project wont be nearly as good as your second one. oh yea this isn’t the FS, WTB or Trade forum
Well that’s good you’re planning ahead for the next build. we only fall so we can get back up. And yeah. I know what you mean by how it’s SO DAMN hard not to get on it. lol.
sorry, i didn’t mean it to turn into all that, i’m just used to trying to get someone to buy that car for him. but no, i do wholeheartedly agree with you. let things break in for a fair amount of time before jumpin in and openin up your new toy so to speak.
