I finally got the bearings for my differential in, and am installing my quaife right now. What I’m wondering is if I should use a dab of loctite and torque to spec the left-hand threaded bolts that hold the ring gear on or just torque them to spec and leave it at that. The helms doesn’t say to, just wondering if it is suggested for safety, or if it’s not a good idea.
Also, how do I ensure that the differential is bottomed out when I go to check the shim clearance? I’ve hit it pretty hard and it doesn’t seem to move, but it still looks like it’s not fully bottomed out, and I can slip a thin feeler gauge between the bearings on both sides, but not accurately enough to get a definitive clearance.
Thanks!
