rebuilt engine, str blockguard, why cant i keep the engine temp down?

He really knows his shit! this guy is always correct! :owned:

lol, you guys are funny.

I didnt want to have to cut out more of my bumper support but didnt really know of any other way to get some air in there other then cutting holes in that filler piece between the hood and bumper.

Heres a picture. Still not cleaned up to my liking but you can see how im getting much more airflow. Im going to put some of that aluminum expanded metal stuff to hide some of the ugly pieces and to protect things.

I still totally get creds for solving this right? And in the first fucking post! You guys = worthless.

i dont know about getting credit for saying the intercooler is the the wrong spot…

clearly thats the radiator…

hahahaha :hugs:

Haha! Someone smart agrees with me. Airflow = the shit, I would think that better rad/ic/placement would solve your prob without fucking with the block. Just IMO.

I think that just about covers it.

fuck fuck fuck…i been having this issue since march …my ic is about the same size and i have no bumper cut out…my car is fine around town but soon as i run on the highway (if the outside temp is under 70 is holds in the middle than jumps to overheat after a while i slow down and it goes down…turn on the fan and the also controls it to a point…i also have a half rad. and lower temp therm…dp also close to rad…so what u going to do to fix it…besides chop up the bumper?

i ran around without the bumper filler piece and its fine so cutting out the couple of inches should cure the problem. if it doesnt then i will be cutting out the bumper/hood filler. Thats about all i can think of at this time.

a little late to the conversation due to i just joined. But as on top of your current plans to help your cooling problem - you said earlier you have to run 50/50 coolant mix cause due to our canadian winters. which is the best soloution for year round driving up here. however I change my rad fluids to the season. if the little extra work dosn’t bother ya i would run different mixtures from summer to winter. every little bit is going to help you with the half rad.

Ya Jebus i am going to be doing that as well. I bought some water wetter and im going to run a 15% coolant/85% water mixture for the summer months then go to 50/50 for storing the car. That should help keep the heat down a bit more too.

your engine bay looks really tight. Read this:

it might help you with mounting the rad in a different place. Hope that hepls!

thanks for the link davidhtam but this is actually in a 90 civic hatch although i think our cars are pretty close to the same type of front end setup

. My traction bar/front crossmember isnt far enough back to let the rad drop low enough to clear the hood(lower rad hose tube hits the crossmember)

heres a picture. Unless i modify the lower rad hose tube and have it come out the side of the rad or something i cant mount my rad like that.

^^^^^^^^

You do all your work using the sparetire-jack?

yes i do, i find they work quite well, ive got about 5 of them. I usually just leave it up there when i have the floor jacks underneath. Never hurts to have something extra in case a floor jack gives out.

the guy in that thread is running a full race traction bar. His set up looks really clean! You should ask him how you can lay your stuff out. He’s on these boards as well.

ya i talked to him on the other board.

im going to leave things how they are. im not having any overheating issues anymore now that i cut open the bumper some more.
