Removing A/C on your own?

How can it be done? How should it be done? I want to pull my A/C by just unbolting stuff and tearing it out. Do I have to worry about frion leaks or something, does it need to be professionally done? Any help please, thanks

Regarding A/C removal: Yes, it is okay to just unbolt and rip out the various components, provided your system is not charged (see below). My car’s A/C hadn’t worked since '99 so when I replaced my radiator a couple months ago I took advantage of the opportunity to ditch my A/C compressor and the A/C lines under the hood. I’m leaving the condensor and evaporator where they are since they are a lot of hassle to get at, and they aren’t that heavy anyway.
**WORD OF CAUTION: if your A/C system still has a charge of freon, you should take it to a service center that can discharge the system and recover the R-12 freon. If you start disconnecting fittings on a charged system, the escaping freon could be very dangerous (not to mention bad for the ozone layer).
Hope this helps.
