Replace Outer CV Boot separately?

Can the outer boot be changed without taking apart the inner joint? According to one dealer it can be done, but the other dealer says the outer joint cannot be disassembled so the inner joint must be taken apart. Anyone know for sure ?

you can repair the outer boot separately, but it is FAR more cost effective to replace the entire piece as one unit … I paid $121 USD from NAPA for my driver’s side axle assembly.

So how do you take apart the outer cv joint? BTW, I found the axle for $95CDN or $60US

Unless your joint is clicking, then I wouldnt bother replacing the whole shaft. I dont know about over there but a boot kit costs around $7 US. Sometimes if you hit the outer joint sqare on with a solid hammer it should come off, But the inner joint comes off easily with just a circlip holding it in. I prefer to do it this way so I dont damage the outer joint.
