replacing alternator...

yeah, I know, it’s a bitch to replace… but I have one question, I know I’ll have to remove the driver side axle, but do I have to remove the intermediate shaft as well? because removing only the axle is quite easy…

my alternator is making a strange noise when I draw power from it… I don’t wanna have him go bad on me while on the road…

TIA

No, you don’t have to remove the driveaxle or any kind of shaft. There is a plate that only has a few bolts that you unscrew. It’s in front of the driveaxle/shaft (or whatever you call it). You’ll know what I mean once you have the alternator out of its housing and ready to be pulled out underneath the car. I saw my mechanic do this when my alternator was replaced last month.

Oz

before you change the alternator change the belt first. Mine alternator was very loud and was squeking… but when the belt was replaced the noise was all gone.

belt was replaced… there still some noise!

i’ll be replacing my alternator tomorrow…

The_Oz: is the plate you’re talking about the support for the intermediate shaft??

How much do alternators cost and where do you buy them? The acura dealer, the local NAPA store?

I be Damned!

I be damned if my alternator went out on me last night at 11pm on I-16. While replacing it this morning, I be damned if the M-Fing bolt was stripped on the top of the alternator. Now how in the hell I get it off? Its stripped to the point where i’m on my way of sawing it off. I’ve tried those vice grip plyers, everything. That bolt is a 12mm, I got it all the way down to where a 10mm can fit on it and strip it.

Somebody please…
