I have these 17" chrome rims on car. A buddy wants to buy them (little cosmetic damage that is bothering me) I was planning on getting some white _______ rims in __". Now, I love the performance at high speeds of my 205/40/17 tires. I dont want to loose that but I want a lighter tire. The Rota 16" are 14LBS…is there any other rims out there that weight that much or less and are 17". OTHER then spoon I would love a set but cant find a set for any sane amount (2000$ US is not a good amount…thats like 3k CAN)
So if you have any suggestions I am interested in almost any look. Just show me a pic of give me a link. Any help (and where to look to buy them) would be helpful. I have found buying online cheaper then my local shop for some things.
Kosei K1 I believe are 13lbs. for the 15" version. But that’s too small for you. Also, there was a mag that featured a bunch of wheels, and there was a 17" wheel made by Nippon. Very light, like 16lbs. I think. You might want to look at those.
A few discrepancies I thought I’d point out to help make your points clearer:
1.) Any wheel that is less than 14lbs. and 17" costs at least $2000. (there may be something out there I’m not aware of)
2.) The tire weight will increase as your wheel sizing decreases.
3.) 205/40 17s don’t offer any better high speed performance than 205/45 16s of the same tread.
Get 16s. They are a compromise between looks and performance. 17s simply weigh too much, and are physically inferior rotationally speaking (hehe). Kosei K1s are awesome wheels. There’s a lot of Rotas which are light and of good quality. I’m using 15s now, and the handling didn’t degrade that much even though my tire degraded from A520s to Potenzas RE92s.
If you have to get a 17", the Kosei wheel is a good value. If you want to go lighter then go 16".
I have the RH Evolution CP-8s (only available in 17 I think) that weighs 17lbs a wheel and I got the set shipped from Cali to NH for under a grand. If you are going 17s, these are great and almost the only wheel around 17lbs that isn’t $400+ a wheel. There is a thread in general discussion about wheels/etc you might want to check out.
