Safe CR before detonation...

I think this what what I meant to post earlier… I don’t know what I was thinking… I read my other post and got myself confused…

Anyway, what would the the safest before detonation. What would be some factors that would help prevent detonation? also would a j&s Safeguard system be benifitial or just a hp robber retarding the timing so often…

Eric, in California where you guys only have 91 octane (what a joke), I wouldn’t run any more than 11.5:1 (just to be on the safe side). Many will tell you 12:1 is okay…but is that really a chance you are willing to take? A J&S Safeguard would be beneficial, however they cost a grip. So it’s really up to you. E-mail me if you have any other quesitons.

Gas octane rating. The higher the octane rating, the less prone it is to detonation. That is why VTEC engines and other high compression/FI cars must use premium gas. Anywhere up to 11.5:1 N/A on premium pump gas should be OK.

my cousin has a built ITR in his '99 Si, and he’s on like 12.something:1…but Iowa gets 93 octane premium. for 91 i’d not recommend anything above 11.5:1

i second that… what the hell is 91? charge me more but give me the 92 at least!

eric i think you’re 11.4:1 cr will be okay; still tunable through added fuel/retarded timing.

just make sure your cr calculations are correct. you’d be suprised what kind of difference decking the block as little as .020 makes.
