can anyone post up pics of the routing of the Charge piping for there FMIC, im tryin to figure out the cleanest way to route it, right now i am thinking of removing my washer fluid rez, and routing through to stock airbox place and cutting the lower piece of the core support were the passanger side horn bolts up to to get better clearance but im just curios to see how other people have routed theres thanks(pics with front bumper removed would be great thanks lol)
Here’s one of BlackNinjA’s I stole from his for sale thread:
And one from Go-Autoworks’ site:
thanks bud, that helps alot im gonna try and shave the grill so i can keep the fins and try and hide the blk FMIC for a sleeper look lol
so today i verifyed that my travel voucher i got from the army was the correct amount! witch it was lol so now i get to start ordering parts ^^ im just gonna order the main big items like mani-turbo etc and buy the smaller things like injectors, fuel pump guages etc over time lol i got 4g’s cause i moved my family befor i left for korea ^^ and i still get my bonus lol well part of it since i have the most of it going towards my TSP(Thrifts Savings Plan)
so ive been talking with Phil D at Spoolinperformance for the past week picking his brain appart with alot of questions and learned a couple things
- the super 60-1 would only be good up to 250-290whp
- the log manifold would start to hinder me and stop makin power at around 300whp
- and BIGGER INJECTORS!!
lol so the new game plan is his quick4 designed Manifold im still gonna recirc the dumptube, the turbo im gonna run is a t3/t4 50trim stgIII turbine good for up to 350-400whp so il have plenty of room to work with, im gonna run the Mishimoto Z-line intercooler(Black) cause im getting a really good deal from Darkstar(thanks bud) and if i dont build my own 3in exhaust with that kit redintegra was talking about in the forcedinduction section, i will probaly go with thermal RD 3in turbo exhaust.
my buddys shop is almost finished lol he is putting up the last bit of sheetrock and my body work will start!! i just got a new camera today so i will be posting pics up of Korea as soon as i can get off post and check out the sights, my bday is on the 19th il be turning 21 me and my buddys are gonna be going mountain climbing to a budist temple should be really fun lol well im gonna go to bed its 2353 and i gotta get up early i will talk at yall later
good luck on the body work and the turbo set up man! (even though you are on the other side of the globe.) i get to start my cage and body work next month.
i know right lol i wish i was there to help, did seth get you the letter of CASH!? lol i wish we could have hung out befor i shipped off buddy when i come home we are gonna have to cruise are the pen lol hows your DA comin? get a tune yet? post some pics so i can check her out ^^
il post some pics of korea soon just got a nikon coolpix lol 152 bucks aint bad its a sweet little camera
heres mine.
i like that way alot, whats your hp&trq and how many lbs? Specs?
What size is your charge piping?
deffifnatly try to keep your piping as short as possible, I would conside a back door setup and think about runing 2 inch hot side/2.5-3 inch cold side depending on boost levels

cold side is 2.5" and hot side is 1.5" i believe. on that engine (stock b18a) it was making 300whp 292tq at 18psi on a gt2871r. 38mm wastegate, 3" turbo back exhaust, 550cc injectors and the rest is the usual. now im running an ls/vtec with a forged block but same turbo setup. gonna be tuning soon aiming for 400+ whp. if you got any other questions just ask.
how long did your ls last? my plan is to build a Head with BC valvetrain etc, ARP headstuds, what did you use to tune? even tho glynn and everyone else has me set on s300 lol im also thinking about building my own IM with a 70mm plenum i will show my desigin ideas later once i get some bigger drawings and specs lol need to see if my dad can have his shop machine some injector housings and Baseplate lol
well i didn’t keep it for long only about 3000km i believe. when i took it apart it only had 152 000km on it but when i would boost a lot it would burn about a liter of oil per tank of gas. but compression was 180 in all 4 combustion chambers so i guess that’s about normal for a stock b18a boosting 18psi. i’m tuned on crome pro gold.
how many miles were on your ls befor you turbod it?
ordering my turbo parts next week cause some stuff came up that i need to pick up befor i snag these up.
you made 300whp on 100%stock ls(just fuel mods)?
whats a backdoor setup? lol
backdoor meaning the turbo spools, essentially, directly into the intercooler without any pipe routing to the side of the intercooler… The only issue i have is that the end tanks SHOULD be radius’d to allow smooth air flow into the core. The mistake many seem to make is to make a block of a tank with no radius on a back door setup. The air flow from the turbo to the intercooler ends up being excessively chaotic and uncontrolled. In that case I would guess a normal intercooler with side end tank entry is best. I think there are good numbers to be had with a back door setup with radius’d end tanks.
Glynn is right also, the less piping the better and the efficiency on a backdoor setup would be tits…
uuhhh best way to show it is by pic… ps. this is also what i meant by a completely useless backdoor design, I could deffinetly see this intercooler in particular hurting performance over the typical intercooler design.
that is nice.

149 000km which is 92 500 miles about. 300whp with fuel mods and arp headstuds. it has been done many times just dont expect it to last forever and your tune needs to be dead on.
I cant say that enuff, it is ALL in the tune.
backdoor intercoollers from my research are by far more efficent and practicle piping wise IMHO.
with redtegras pics above. see how much piping you could remove if you just clocked the turbo down a little bit and had went strait into the back of it.
heres some good reading on the subject I came across.

well the integra is sitting as of right now but in the mean time i got this to putt around in. :read:

if you can find a good back door intercooler then for sure it’s the better way to go. but in all honesty there’s not that big of a difference. if you have to really go out of your way to do a backdoor setup or pay a couple hundred dollars more i wouldn’t really bother. manifold design and especially the turbo have a way greater impact. which im sure you know. for example my setup spooled 18 psi at 3800 rpm. it was instant it was like i wasnt even turbo’d. 8 psi at 3000 rpm. when do you ever drive below 3000 rpm haha? but for sure backdoor design will save you on piping lenght and the space the piping takes. btw have you found a good backdoor style intercooler or your going to fabricate one yourself??

yeah i can see how that intercooler is just garbage lol nothing smooth about it, does the placement of the BOV effect anything? ive seen alot of bov’s on intercoolers latly
yeah i plan on building the head and leavin the lowerend stock and when it blows up goin either LS/v or if money is avalable and time j35 ^^

Nice man lol i bet your vw buddys are happy you got one huh lol im thinking about coming home for mid tour leave but im still in the whole from the forced leave itook for xmas, think by like 2-4 days left in the hole so i might just wait tell i pcs and come home to use my leave, but i will let yah know if and when i will be comin home so we can hangout
i was actually thinking about fabricating my own IC but i am probaly just gonna get the mishimoto zline FMIC cause im getting a great deal on it and il run charge piping like yours i will draw up and post a pic of my intake manifold design but heres a idea its gonna have stubby runners like a Edle VX mani but on the inside it will have small stacks with a 70+mm plenum and either my type r tb or a s2 68-70mm tb mated to it lol kinda like this
-v-v-v-v- lol maybe il do it up on paint later well its 12am im 21 woot woot
gonna go to sleep had a long work day il talk with yall later
